Newly documented Wake on Lan (WOL) functionality (2016)

I know this is an old topic, but I did not see any mention of ‘rtcwake’ under linux (I’m sure Windows has something similar). WOL has always been problematic - it’s not properly implemented on all platforms and depends on a sender host and network being up. If the sleep time is periodic then rtcwake is a vastly superior solution - just schedule the rtcwake call with cron and sleep/resume will be fully automatic.
