fawncab:
I am not a developer and new to all this. I have a Schlage Connect lock system and Smartthings hub, and want to download and install Lock Manager. I need to be able to create and delete entry codes from remote locations. Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to accomplish this? I have read some of the postings on the subject and done a lot of clicking around, but am not having success. I really need some parental guidance. Thanks.
Welcome!
This will give you an overview of how to use custom code. (This is a clickable link)
The original FAQ information in this thread refers to the original smartthings architecture, which was in place through the end of 2022 and a little beyond. Custom code was written in the groovy programming language and ran in the smartthings cloud.
As of May 2023, you can no longer add new Groovy DTHās or smartapps to your smartthings account. So if you came here because of a link in an old forum thread, or on another site, Iām afraid the Groovy information is no longer usable.
All of this was replaced by a new architecture. Cloud to cloud integrations use the smartthings API. Hub connected devices, mostly Zigbee and zwave, now use āEdge Drivers,ā written in the LUA programming language. Hereās the official announcement on those:

Once you understand the general process, you can ask any specific questions about a particular smart app in the authorās thread for that smart app. The author will be automatically notified when you post to that thread and other people using the same code may also be able to help.

Manage user codes on locks.
Manage Keypads.
Review and manage active lock codes.
Set lock access based on schedules.
Receive notifications when a user used their code.
Run Hello Home phrases based on lock/unlock events.
Manage Hello Home phrases based on keypad inputs.
This app works using 3 child apps and 1 parent app. It is recommended that you install all 4 apps, however if you do not use keypad devices, it is not required to install the keypad child app.
Note: If upgrading from any beta version, it is required to uninstall the app completely before installing. The architecture of this app has changed in
a way that is incompatible with previous versions.

(March 2018: All of the following applies only to the SmartThings Classic app. If you purchased your hub after March 1, 2018 and are using the new āSmartThings (Samsung Connect)ā app, creating rules works differently.)
Youāve got your hub. Youāve got some devices. Now how do you schedule what happens when?
SmartThings doesnāt have a rules engine/scheduler, so thereās no one tutorial for how to do this. But itās an open platform, and there are about 12 different ways to set up various kinds of schedules. Some require custom code, some donāt.
A āschedulerā in this context is anything that causes a networked device to perform an action, even if itās just to toggle on or off immediately. (Network engineering definition, forgive me. )
