New SmartThings Schema Integration for Arlo

Today we are launching a new version of our Arlo integration, which adds support for more Arlo devices, improves stability, and reduces latency for faster viewing of your camera or video doorbell clips. It is now accessible through the SmartThings app catalog.

This is our first launch of an integration built in partnership with Arlo on SmartThings Schema. This new integration supports more of Arlo’s newest devices, as well as existing devices that were supported through the existing Groovy cloud-to-cloud integration. Over the next few weeks, SmartThings will migrate Arlo users to the new integration without any impact to their existing devices or automations. We will inform you before that migration begins.

What devices does the new integration support?

Do I need to do anything now?

Current Arlo users can continue using the legacy integration with their existing devices for now.

To onboard any of the newly supported devices, you will need to use the new integration. Doing so before you are migrated to the new integration may result in duplicate devices at your location. We recommend all existing users wait to add newly supported devices until the migration is complete. Don’t worry, it’s coming very soon!

If you choose to add a newly supported device before migration starts, you can avoid duplicate devices by manually migrating to the new integration. Please be aware that this will also remove any existing automations and scenes that include Arlo devices.

To manually migrate to the new integration, follow these steps:

  1. From the Home screen, select Menu (Menu icon) and tap on the gear icon.
  2. Navigate to the Linked services page and tap on the Arlo integration.
  3. Select More Options () and delete the integration.
  4. From the Home screen, touch the Plus (+) icon and select Device.
  5. Select Arlo and tap Camera > Arlo or Lighting > Arlo Security Light.
  6. Choose a location and room, and touch Next to enter your Arlo account credentials.
  7. Select the Arlo cameras or lights to connect and tap Done.
  8. Tap Done again to complete setup.

We will continue to monitor the performance of this new integration and work closely with Arlo to make ongoing improvements. If you have any specific feature you’d like to request, feel free to contact Arlo directly or chime in on this post. For any questions or assistance with connecting your Arlo devices to SmartThings, we’re here to help at support@smartthings.com.

Has this been beta tested at all?

OK - I did the new integration just like stated above. Overall, everything worked fine, except that my Arlo Pro 3 still isn’t showing as a device in SmartThings. Here are the screenshots of what is available in ST and what is in my Arlo account:

What countries is this integration limited to?

When I did it, I was not given a choice of which cameras to allow access to smartthings. It auto loaded all cameras from three houses tied to my account.

After authentication with arlo, it goes back to the “camera” selection but doesn’t allow me to select which cameras. The only option is to select “camera” again, but this brings me back to arlo’s authentication page. Therefore, the only option left is to cancel the integration.

Probably tried it once on his own phone. Therefore works everywhere, right?

This looks like the old Groovy integration

The new integration does not have the ability to view or change the on/off status for the camera. So if the camera is off you will not be able to see this within ST and when trying to start a video you will just get spinning circle

@mvevitsis says the doorbell does not have button capability, so add that to the request list

Unfortunately ring is the only doorbell device type still

This is amazing news that my Arlo ultra’s and video doorbell cameras are now working within smartthings. Thank you! I agree, having the on/off switch capability, in addition to being able to use them within automations would be a great addition.

can someone check to see if cameras integrated with the new Schema integration can be used in SmartThings Home Monitor responses and/or automations?

If this new Arlo Schema Integration does not have the ability to turn the Arlo Camera On/Off, then COUNT ME OUT AND DON’T EVEN MIGRATE ME TO THIS SO CALLED ‘IMPROVED’ INTEGRATION!!! Turning the Arlo Cameras On/Off is the biggest feature I need integrated. So, you can keep all those other ‘improved’ features and leave me on the legacy integration please!

I saw this same thing when I tried it a few months ago when it was live for a day or so and hated it then.

Yup - did the migration and NO ABILITY TO ARM/DISARM the cameras! In fact - the new devices are literally nothing but viewing the live feed and past history.

I lost all of the functionality that I relied on :frowning: boo.

Can’t even use motion in them when creating an automation?

Sorry - yes, that actually does work. So technically more than just the live feed

They can be used in automations for recording or to trigger the Arlo alarm. However, they do not have the option in automations to turn them on or off. It looks like the default recording length is one minute and I don’t see an option to change the length, just the option to delay the start of the recording.

Unfortunately, I am not able to test them on sthm as I have the adt panel.

It seems everything is 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Why can’t a new / updated integration be an overall improvement in features, usability, speed etc. WITHOUT giving up anything!?! That doesn’t seem like a hard request in today’s technology field but it seems as though Samsung can’t wrap their head around it. Hopefully they won’t kick us off the old integration until is on par with new.
