Same behavior I see with my apps…
Same here…
Huh, I hadn’t check my physical sensors, only my virtual switch/sensors. Indeed, I’m seeing the same behavior with Alexa app showing the sensor open and close, but the routine not triggering. So now I’m thinking they didn’t break the virtual devices, they just broken the routine triggering.
Sigh…
yeap, I don’t use virtual stuff, just the sensors by themselves … I can see on/off reflected in the app but not triggering anything…
I would suggest people send emails to support@smartthings.com if you haven’t already done so.
Agreed. I opened a ticket (see my post) and other should too.
Originally I thought it was only my virtual sensors that didn’t work because my physical sensors worked. Like others I have Routines to make an announcement when a sensor opens (ex. Back door opened).
But, it seems the reason the physical sensors worked is because they were likely still running under the SmartThings Classic Alexa Skill.
In an effort to get virtual sensors to work I disabled the classic skill, the SmartThings Alexa Skill, logged out of Alexa, logged back into Alexa, re-enabled the Alexa Skill, linked it to my Samsung account. This is all the suggested steps to get the new skill installed/working.
My understanding is everything should be linked with just the new Alexa Skill. Now, none of my Routines work.
Just think… FOUR MONTHS ago, we were all excited about this new skill.
BAD NEWS…I WAS WRONG!
Physical switch (Aeotec door contact), virtual contact switch, virtual button (momentary) switch not working to trigger any Alexa event. It did work for a while…has to be the interface.
I was a mainframe system programmer for 35 years…this is total BS, UNACCEPTABLE. WE WOULD HAVE ALL BEEN FIRED !!!
WAIT —— While I was writing this I just got a couple of test message from Alexa…only been 42 minutes
I was getting delayed responses for a while, now nothing.
In case anybody wondered… i use Alexa routines a lot, with many different brands of Physical sensors that are not running through smartthings. All of those, including the Hue sensors connected to the Hue bridge, are working fine to trigger Alexa routines.
It could still be something on the Alexa side that the smartthings devices happened to run into, but so far I have not had problems from any other platform.
FWIW…
You are correct, you cannot select either at the location level or the device level. With the new smartthings/Alexa skill introduced in April 2020, all devices on any of your smartthings locations are exposed to Alexa. It didn’t used to be that way, but it is now.

Can I control multiple SmartThings Locations with Alexa?
.
Yes, linking Alexa to SmartThings will allow Alexa to access all locations on your account at once.
My SmartThings Z-wave motion and door switches show activity in the Alexa app, but the routines don’t run…
I set up a test routine on Alexa using my morning room door, (Aeotec recessed, Zwave), to trigger a notification when the door was opened. As you can see from the ST screenshot, I opened the door at exactly 9:00pm (open for about 10 seconds). My plan was to monitor the device on the Alexa app and see how long it took to reflect there. So, I checked it, and every 5 minutes closed the Alexa app on my iPad, reopened the app and checked the status/time. Again as you can see, it wasn’t changing…after an hour I gave up.
btw, the 8:39 time showing on the Alexa app was from the 8:05 open. Again, as of 10:00 the 9:00 open is not showing. So, based on JD’s comment It looks a lot like ITS A SMARTTHINGS PROBLEM!
My first guess with my pass history in message processing would be lack of resources, ultimately causing an overflow that forced dropped transactions …imho
I would think someone at ST could validate this from a transaction log…I’m guessing you have lots of transactions, but my history is financial, top 5 bank…millions of atm/teller transactions, and it CAN be done.
Thanks
Since there has been a lot of posts about this recently, let me again clarify the situation. The issue of Alexa routines not working is a SmartThings issue and we are working on fixing it. There is nothing a user can do to resolve it, and it does not depend on the device type.
Clear and to the point, thanks.

Thanks for responding. If you would like data points that help you debug the issue with alexa routines then PM me. I can give you specific instances (from the past 24 hrs with timestamps) where the same routine has/hasn’t worked.
Good to hear. This is critical functionality and I hope a fix is coming soon.
Thank you Lars for the update. Is there a time frame for the resolution so I can try again by then? Thanks again.
Then delay the kill date of the original skill until this, the locations security issue, and Alexa discovering ALL devices, is fixed. Simple.
