Thanks @bmmiller. Good to know.
Iâm super curious what your battery life is like. Iâm trying to decide if I want to just deal with having to charge whichever tablet once a week? Or try and run power to it.
So I get page cannot be displayed. No errors prior, install seemed to go much better.
Any ideas why I canât see my app in the browser?
This might be a noob question but whatâs the best way to start over? How would I clear out the directory and start over from step 1?
Whenever I try it says that I canât âgit cloneâ because of "fatal: destination path âhadashboardâ already exists and is not an empty directory"
Thanks!
Thatâs saved locally. If youâre on windowsâŚc:\users\username\hadashboard
Just delete that folder, and delete your app on heroku. That should take care of all of it
I was having the same issue where âGit remote heroku addedâ wasnât showing up after I ran the âheroku createâ command. I tried âgit config --global push.default simpleâ, but when I try to run that nothing happens.
Pauls-MacBook-Pro:hadashboard Paul$ git config --global push.default simple
Pauls-MacBook-Pro:hadashboard Paul$
What am I missing?
@melianguidry, you can manually add the Heroku remote like this:
$ git remote add heroku git@heroku.com:your-app-name.git
Make sure to replace your-app-name.
If that doesnât work, you may have opted out of creating a public key when you logged into Heroku (heroku login). You can fix that by retroactively setting a key. Here are some detailed instructions on how to set a new key.
@florianz, tried this again 3 more times and Iâm still getting webpage not available. I am using Windows 8.
@bmmiller, did you download the heroku toolbelt and use Git Bash? Iâm doing something wrong, but I canât figure out what it is and itâs driving me nuts
The webpage shows " http://your-app-name.herokuapps.com/auth/notset
@liemydude In a private message, can you send me the output of running heroku config?
It did work at first. Not sure what happened, but I deleted everything on my local drive, SmartThings App and Heroku, started over and it went through like a breeze. Now I just have to get my widgets in there.
Thanks for your help.
@liemydude, not sure if this is related, but when I typed in the URL, it didnât work at first. I logged in to Heroku and clicked on the app settings and there was a link to the app in there. I clicked that link and everything worked.
@florianz Have you tried this at all? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.procoit.kioskbrowser
It doesnât require the Immsersive Mode and there is no address bar to consider. It has a bunch of extra features built in that a standard browser wouldnât have.
I havenât gotten the wake up with Motion Detector/Tasker/Secure Settings working yet to test with it, and I donât leave it up long enough to test the server side events staying active though.
forgive me if this is an obvious question - newbie here - but this is gorgeous and looks amazing⌠why not make this as an app so that its easily useable? I know NOTHING about programming⌠so all of the instructions are beyond me.
Would love a master controller app I can use for my tablet as a home controller⌠Whatâs the best one right now for smartthings?
Tnx!
Itâs a little bit beyond the capability of a SmartApp right now, but yes, itâd be great if possible. Itâd likely require a lot of work with SmartThings directly.
is this the best option out there? is there anything simpler to work with? Like I said, I know zero about programming, so anything that requires that is going to be a big Fail for me.
I havenât. Let me know how it works!
Eventually, I would like to offer this as a service, which you can just sign up to and edit your dashboard online. Like @bmmiller said, though, thatâs a lot of work and it may take a while to get there. In the meantime this is the only way to install one for yourself⌠Sorry.
This is brand spanking new right now and done primarily by an individual developer on his own time, for himself, which heâs so kindly shared with us. I just thought Iâd point that out if that wasnât immediately obvious.
Another dashboard that another individual coincidentally just released exists here:
Itâs a significantly easier install, and is just a SmartApp. Each has their positives and negatives, but a big positive for that one is the ease of installation.
The wonderful thing about an open platform and such a great community is more features and cool stuff like this, unfortunately sometimes not everyone is able to participate because of limitations like their skill level.
The best part is ST monitors this community and can see what users are excited about. I promise you ST is watching the progress of this App/Feature and will either work with the developer to make it more user friendly or at the very least use it to mold their own option.
What @florianz has accomplished is brilliant, as @bmmiller said others have released similar functions via other methods. Each has their benefits and drawbacks.
@jterpslaw donât be afraid to ask questions, Iâve already seen improvements to this code and the instructions based on community feedback and questions.
My last note is if youâre having problems today, try again in a few days. Iâm a amateur php developer and I too have had some struggles with this Dashboard, but as I said before in my opinion this is one of the best community developments yet.
@florianz, Do you have your Nexus 7 just running off of battery? If so, whatâs your battery life like assuming you have almost nothing installed and are you using the 1st or 2nd generation tablet?
@mattjfrank I actually havent done anything yet. I am thinking of getting the SmartThings setup for my home maybe paired with an alarm system. I do heavy research before I spend that kind of money though and I know this whole thing is in its infancy. So I wanted to see whatâs out there and how it would impact me before I spent the countless hours that I know it will take setting this up.
Thanks @bmmiller - whatâs a âSmartAppâ? This one looks halfway decent although I like @florianzâs visual appearance more as itâs far more attractive!
