I would like something like an AEON Micro Switch that goes behind a manual switch. Except it cannot be a dimming switch. Has anyone run into anything like this?
Aeon makes two micros. One is a dimmer, one is not. Both are on the official “works with SmartThings” list.
SmartenIT also makes a zigbee relay that fits in a switch box, also on the list.
@JDRoberts at this point I think that ST should hire you if you are not working (SMILE). I am disabled as well, and have a home aid who lives with me. He likes working on cars, and I try to help when I feel well enough. So this is going to help us setup lighting in the garage.
What are some of the things you have learned while dealing with Home Automation from a disability point of view?
This is a good topic on smart homes and helpful features for those with physical disabilities. Also follow the links for more discussion.
As for me, I just happen to have an interest in the “thing” side of smart things. So that stuff tends to stick with me.
@JDRoberts yep they should hire you just for your technical expertise. Thanks again for the help. I have, as you may know, been around for a bit. But with the medical issues at hand, and weekly dialysis I find that I do not have enough solid time to keep up here. Your posts are always good and informative. Thank you so much for all that you do for the community.
What do you do for a day job? Other than ST (SMILE)
Glad to help; just paying it forward.
Actually I don’t expect to be on much for awhile. I just posted on the 30th that April should update the smartapps list going forward, and you may have noticed more weird typos in my recent posts. I’m not up to doing my usual playback and correct cycle.
I’ve had some additional decline, and am finding it harder to navigate and post. Not unexpected. My condition is a progressive neuropathy, and there’s frequent rebalancing required as things change. So it goes.
Wishing you the best, JD. You’re a tremendous asset to the community!
Really sorry to hear this, I wish we were living in the same area, as I would be there to help.
