Mobile presence on classic 2.18 broken (November 2019)

Same here. Android 10. Also app crashed a couple times while navigating menus

Begrudgingly logged an issue. Surely won’t get a useful response but hopefully they react to volume.

EDIT: They responded and acknowledged there is an issue and they are looking at it. I’m actually quite satisfied with that answer as it didn’t go down a path of a bunch of random troubleshooting that wouldn’t fix anything.

Fyi I went ahead and downgraded both my wife’s and daughter’s phones tonight and they did NOT start working. I then realized the difference from what I did is I removed and readded my presense so I did that with their’s. Not sure if I had done that with the 2.18 app in conjunction with uninstalling and reinstalling if that would work. . . .but not going to upgrade to find out!

I haven’t heard nothing yet from support. One thing that pisses me off is how ST uses its status.smartthings.com webpage. “All systems Operational”… really? What is this then if it is not incident concerning more that one people.

Lucky you. I got the always useless scripted Samsung human bot response. Clearly they didn’t even read my bug report of what was broken and troubleshooting steps already done. I notice the broken Android app is still being served from Play store. Its as if nobody even pays attention at Samsung anymore!

Got this back from support. I am now on 2.17 on all devices so don’t want to try it, but someone on 2.18 want to give it a try? Just make sure you know your ID/Pwd before doing it as my wife didn’t which took some hunting.

"We are writing back in regard to your concern with the SmartThings Classic app.

The last update made some changes to the app. I suggest you “uninstall and re-install” the Classic app and see if you are able to get everything to work again.

Also, as you have mentioned you are using the previous version of the app. Can you please confirm whether you are still using that version or the new version.

If the issue persists, kindly get back to us."

My wife’s phone is now having this problem. The IDE shows an odd combination of states for her “broken” phones:

It should look like this when gone:

Ok so they have no idea what causes this. Bullshit solution to tell people to reinstall application again.

I’ll have to update when I’m home, but after reinstalling from the Google Playstore and then re-adding my phone, I’m now “away”.

My phone hasn’t been working for a week+, I just haven’t noticed as my routines also run off my wive’s iPhone (we carpool all the time).
I’ve tried, in this order: Re-did location permissions, force close app, reboot phone, log out/in, clear cache/log-in, clear storage/log-ing, re-did location permissions, re-add phone, reinstall app.
Up unti this point, my phone continued to show as Present.
I re-added again and now I’m “away” and “has left”.

My “pin” on the map shows my location and home area correctly. Hopefully, it’ll stay working when I get home later today.

Edit: presence is not updating even though the map shows me within the area

Same here with S10 plus. Also device icons have vanished. Going to the list of icons to add is also blank. But my biggest issue is the presence sensor stopped working after years of flawless performance. Seems to have started freaking out after the Nov 15 update. Support refuses to believe its a bug in the app and I’ve already removed/reinstalled phone from app, and removed/reinstalled the app itself. Go look at the Google Play reviews and sort by latest and you’ll see everybody is complaining about it.

Support said to me that this classic update is step closer to moving to new application. Could it be that st will not fix this because it’s a part of the plan.

Presence on the classic app hadn’t changed state since 11/19. Switching presence to the new app appears to be working for me, though I’ve only come home once since I did it.

No issue with existing icons for me, but the list is blank when I try to choose new icons. App is crashing out around 50% of the time when I open it but otherwise is operating mostly as normal.

I’m seeing very few icons when trying to choose a new one in the classic app. Under Lighting, for example, I see two icons where there used to be at least a dozen. The two are placed on the page as if there were a bunch more.

No crashing issues for me, though.

Android 9 on Galaxy Tab S5e and Android 10 on Pixel 2

I still see a little over a dozen available icons, but I bit the bullet last night and completely removed Classic from my wife’s phone. She’s only using the new app with phone presence configured. So far so good. I’m already using the new app, and may just uninstall Classic from my phone and only keep it on my tablet.

Here I thought it was an issue with the new phone, glad I checked here. Rolled back to 2.17. I hope they fix, HE is looking better every day.

Same as everyone else post update to 2.18 on my GS9. Presence messed up, frequent crashes and I can no longer view any camera feeds without it crashing and looping back to the home screen. All icons gone etc.

So gutted I updated. Can someone post instructions on how to roll back to 2.17?

Many thanks.

Are you guys really giving up so easy? We should demand st to fix this quickly. No one should roll back because after you do that you are satisfied and couldn’t care less if they fix it or not.

Go to apkmirror.com and search for SmartThings and download the 2.17 APK. Allow your phone to install from other sources, and install 2.17. Make sure to set up ST not to auto update via the Play store.

Many thanks @johnconstantelo , do I need to uninstall the updated app first? Or does it just overwrite it?
