Matter smoke detector

Sensereo is coming out with a new smoke & carbon monoxide detector. Its for the UK but the gentleman who responded back thinks it can also be used in the United States. @JDRoberts or anyone else knowledgeable about this stuff….. can this be used here becasue i dont see any matter or even zigbee combo units. Also forgot to add ot works with smartthings.

Thanks

Dom

The uk and us standards differ so even if the physically work, And are triggered by smoke etc. they won’t be UL listed so will not be up to code. May cause you legal or insurance issues should you have a fire.

It’s unlikely to have the US sound pattern, so it probably won’t legally meet the code requirement to count as a smoke detector in The US. That also means it’s unlikely that other listener devices like Echoes will recognize its alerts as smoke alarms. But the physics doesn’t change, so it will still make a sound when it detects smoke, it just won’t be the same sound as a smoke detector which is UL listed in the US. So I don’t know if it will meet your needs or not.

Im just gonna wait so hopefully soon they will have a version for here.

Their smoke alarms are certified for EU/UK:

Pretty sure that you can find this on their website.

For CO2 use your IKEA ALPSTUGA, which has a better sensor anyway.

Wonder why all the battery smoke alarms have non-replaceable batteries.

Because the sensors age as well. You want to replace the whole unit after about ten years, not just the battery.

I see no mention of it being a carbon monoxide detector as per the original post.

That would be carbon dioxide. Carbon monoxide is just CO.

Right - I misread it two days ago. In any case, the smoke detector mentioned does neither of the two.
