This seems to have at least enabled bridges to be discovered, but it still only adds one device (at least in the case of my Switchbot Hub 2). Based on the comments in the fingerprint file it sounds like this is temporary until a hub firmware update adds full Matter Bridge support.

I wasn’t really suggesting that there was any guts to it, only that the existence of increasing numbers of bridge fingerprints in production drivers could be read as a marker of positive progress. I read the comments as saying that the requirement for explicit fingerprinting of bridges is a temporary requirement.

Speaking as an engineer, personally I think the CSA should NOT have certified Matter controllers or allowed them to use the Matter logo until they:

  1. support importing Matter bridges
  2. support Thread and WiFi devices even if they themselves are not a Thread Border Router. (in other words, it’s ok for Thread devices to also require a Thread Border Router—it’s not ok for a Matter controller to ignore Matter over Thread devices when a TBR is available.)
  3. Work with both the android and iOS versions of their own app if they have both
  4. Support multi admin onboarding both as the first and second controller for the device

Up until then, the implementation is still in Beta and it should be obvious to consumers that it is without having to do a ton of research.

Without that, the whole promise of crossplatform compatibility is missing. :rage:

I’m ok with implementations the way SwitchBot did it, where the “Matter bridge” works fine on other platforms, but only for a limited set of the attached devices. I think that’s always going to be a possibility, and it’s easy enough for the device manufacturer to keep a list on their Website of which models gets bridged. (Well, “easy” is a relative term as Wiz demonstrated, but certainly doable.)

But this whole partial implementation rollout makes a mockery of the interoperability promise.

6) allow LAN control of the Matter device (ahem, SmartThings)

For a standard that touted to “simplify” the smart home, they have allowed a whole lot of wiggle room in certification that has caused unnecessary confusion.

And the really annoying thing is that because this is a certification process issue, it will never go away unless they change the certification requirements. Otherwise Three years from now someone could introduce a new hub which is a certified Matter controller and it could have exactly the same issues: only works with its android app, doesn’t bring in matter bridges, etc. It could even be a new version of a matter controller that previously had full support but now the new one doesn’t. Insanity. :rage:

HomeKit News says the new Sonoff Mini Extreme with Matter Support (Sonoff MINIR4M) is due for release any minute now…

Note the “M“ suffix – – that’s the version that supports matter.

It’s official, the Aqara M3 hub due to be released by the end of this year will be both a Matter Controller, and a Matter bridge! Full two way matter integration. You will be able to add some third-party mattercompliant devices to the M3 and add it to other mattercompliant platforms, bringing along some of its devices.

We’ll have to see exactly which models are included in both directions, but it’s a very positive sign for matter.

Of course, we still need smartthings to add support for incoming matter bridges.

But all in all, this is really good news.

HomeKit News has the confirmation in a story about the just released update for the M2, which is available now. The M2 will be a Matter bridge for its own zigbee Devices, but so far cannot bring in third-party devices.

I have this one here… not connecting to Smartthings hub. What is the “matter” with Matter devices in ST?
My hub is a ST Wi-fi with firmware 000.046.00010.

Wi-Fi hubs don’t support Matter yet. You can check what is and isn’t supported using the ST CLI.

I think you can also pull up the hub device page in the app and scroll to the bottom and look at the logos.

True, but since Matter can run over Thread or Wi-Fi, the logo doesn’t give the whole picture.

One of my Wiz A19 Color Bulbs, Model 123140 has received the promised Matter update.

I am using the Android App and have a V2 hub (FW 47.11).

The Wiz V2 App gave my a QR code, and an eleven digit code.

I added it to ST but it went offline.

So I deleted it from ST and Wiz and started over. I started with ST App and used the eleven digit code from the Wiz App and it worked. The ST App gave me links to add it to Google Home, Tuya and SmartLife. It also gives you an option to generate a new code for other applications.

I added it to SmartLife and it work. EDIT: While the bulb is controllable in SL you can’t add it to scenes (tap-to-run) or automations so it is kind of useless.

When I try to add to Google Home I get an error that I need a Google hub which I don’t have at home. Then it goes to next step. Some times it says it couldn’t find the device. Other times it adds the bulb but it is offline. So apparently no Matter for Google Home with out a Google Hub.

With Alexa I added it in the Alexa App using the 11 digit code generated by ST and it works. I have 1 Echo and 2 Echo Dots for hubs.

The bulb is NOT in the WIZ app.
