Looking for a list and experiences commercially available Matter over Thread push buttons in the United States (April 2026). To make the list it actually has to work reliably on SmartThings, be readily available in the USA, and support Held Down and Released events (natively or eith mocelet’s driver). Specific features to consider:
- How it looks
- Whether it is labelable or printable
- How many buttons
- Battery powered or hardwired
- Whether it’s just a button or has other functionality (if it’s hardwired, it’s likely a light switch, but doesn’t make the list unless the push functionality can be reassigned to function like a smart button)
- Price point
Right now the only one I have personal experience with is the IKEA Bilresa 2-button device for $5.99. I bought several of them around the house as well as one outside for delivery agents (FedEx, UPS, etc.). 2xAAA batteries. Works in SmartThings fine. However, it has poor usability for two reasons. First, it kind of looks like an oblong can and new users don’t really know what the buttons are supposed to do or that it even is a button. It does not look like a button (much less two buttons) so nobody knows to push it or which button to push. There is a small circular indent on one side and a larger circular indent on the other side, which are both quite hard to see, and by the time a user feels them up it’s too late (they push the button, oops!). Second, the magnetic attachment might seem “cool” at first but the Bilresa has a tendency to fall off the magnetic attachment.
