-Lutron. What is you doin? The entirety of my lighting (besides a couple one-off govee devices - but that company is another issue entirely) are now working over Matter. Except Lutron. And yes they have good standard integrations with nearly all platforms already. I realize that. But I was trying to run all my lighting through Aqara as they seem to have the most robust automation system.
-ok one other light. Eve Flare. As they have gradually rolled out Matter to existing products, this is one item that seems to have been left behind. And I don’t get it. Seems like one of the easiest to do.
-still wish someone would put out a generic zigbee hub that would take connected devices and expose them to Matter (those devices which are currently part of the Matter standard, that is). I guess it’s a big ask.
Background: I have hue hub (which is “full” for some reason), aqara hub, and ikea hub. Plus a mishmash of other devices which I’m currently running on zigbee2mqtt. The ikea stuff could be consolidated to the zigbee2mqtt network but I like that the lights come through over Matter using the hub. I don’t want to run the zigbee2mqtt network anymore. Maybe I need to reconsider smartthings as I have really only been using it with Matter since firing it back up.
Does the lutron aurora work with SmartThings and can I use the hub to directly bind it to the respective bulbs?
Since the question that’s likely to get the most responses is the one about a non-matter device, the Luton aurora, I’ve moved that to a new thread for you. If you want to repost just the matter related stuff to the matter thread, go ahead.
As far as I know, it will only work with SmartThings when connected to a Hue bridge. I believe these are now exposed through the official Hue/SmartThings integration, but I’m not 100% sure. They are definitely exposed through the custom integration that @blueyetisoftware created. And I think they also come in through the matter over bridge integration, but it’s limited integration.
Very interesting. Though it’s not super clear, the Aurora is a zigbee device. Wonder if it would be as simple as creating a driver. Don’t know anything about that though.
Thanks for the reply and you are probably right to separate the long rant I posted
If it were that simple, somebody would’ve done it already.
It might be possible, it might not. There are lots of reports on other forums that these specific devices only work with some Zigbee controllers. There are a lot of technical reasons for that, but the short answer is they have only certified them to work with the Hue Bridge so it’s a matter of luck if they work with some other brand.
