I’ve connected my air conditioner and dishwasher to LG ThinQ, but I noticed that these devices are not supported or recognized in SmartThings. Has anyone else experienced the same issue?
Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
At the time of this writing, LG appliances do not Integrate with SmartThings (Which is a Samsung company).
In August 2023, both companies announced that they hoped to provide some integration in the future through a project called “home connectivity alliance“, but no features have been released yet.
You should contact customer support for your appliance and ask them when SmartThings integration is expected.
Since the 2023 announcement I personally have seen nothing more.
Meanwhile LG have acquired Homey, and this has been followed with several news updates, so maybe there is a change of direction here. Just a thought - don’t know if anyone can shed more light on this.
I notice that the ThinQ interface seems to getting updates but is way behind where ST is and requires their TV “hub” for integration. I’d be curious where the ST-LG integration lies though.
Now that matter has included appliances in the 1.4 standard, that’s probably the more likely trajectory for both LG and Samsung, but neither one has announced any models on that path yet, either.
From the verge
Home appliances
.
Fridges / freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, microwaves, and ovens are all supported Matter device types, but so far, actual on-sale appliances with Matter support are few and far between.
.
Manufacturers Whirlpool (which owns KitchenAid and Maytag), Bosch, Midea, Hisense, Toshiba, LG, Samsung, and Haier (which owns GE Appliances) are all members of Matter. But only Midea and Bosch have implemented the standard.
.
Midea has added it to a dishwasher and microwave, neither of which you can buy yet. Bosch has Matter in its Siemens / Bosch XXL built-in fridge freezer and its Bosch 100 Series French Door fridge, but the update won’t be live until March 2025.
.
Some Samsung refrigerators and TVs are Matter controllers but not Matter devices . Notably, Samsung has not committed to making any of its appliances Matter devices.
The home connectivity alliance still exists, but I don’t see anything being actually available to consumers yet.
So, assuming they proceed down the matter1.4 path, if I have a legacy LG device that has Wifi, would matter be an option in the future, or would I need new appliances (or upgrades)?
No way to know yet, and it’s likely to be a model by model issue.
Since matter requires local communication, many device manufacturers have discovered that some of their individual devices just don’t have enough memory to handle the matter requirements. (this turned out to be true for both Netatmo and Eve.)
If it was Easy, they would’ve done it already. So we will just have to wait and see.
I got the LC C4 65in TV with Matter. I have been messing around with it to see if i could say turn the TV on from within the ST app, but alas, i could not figure it out, so came here. Guessing after reading above it is not possible currently. I thought the TV being Matter assured connectedness.
If Im following correctly, a Matter HUB like this TV need not connect to other Matter Hubs like my ST2. Is that right?
Some time I was doing my tests and created myself a samsung account with a region in Korea. There was then the possibility of integration with the LG ThinQ account.
I don’t know about that specific model, but the LG TV I have the misfortune to be familiar with is a Matter Controller, in the same way that a SmartThings V2 hub is (as an example). That means it can pair with and control external Matter end devices.
What it isn’t is a Matter end device in itself that can be paired to other Matter Controllers. Neither is it a Matter Bridge that can present devices it can control as Matter devices to other Matter Controllers.
