Hello everyone,
I am experiencing an integration issue between SmartThings and Tuya/Smart Life and hope someone in the community might have found a solution or workaround.
Brief description of the problem:
After successfully linking my Smart Life account with SmartThings, I can control all devices, but there is a partial incompatibility with one specific RGBW LED strip.
-
Device: Eurolamp 145-70043 (Tuya-based RGBW LED Strip)
-
Works flawlessly: Directly in the Smart Life/Tuya Smart app (including dimming, colors, and scenes/modes).
-
Works in SmartThings: The On and Off commands sometimes work correctly via SmartThings.
-
Problem in SmartThings: When attempting to change the Brightness (Dimming) or Color, I receive the following error:
“Възникна грешка в мрежата или сървъра. Опитайте отново по-късно.” (A network or server error occurred. Please try again later.)
What I have tried so far (without success):
-
Resetting the strip and re-pairing it.
-
Removing and re-linking the Smart Life and SmartThings accounts integration.
My question is:
Has anyone with a Tuya-based RGBW strip encountered this specific issue where only the dimming and color commands result in a network error in SmartThings? Is there a known solution for this problem?
When you link your Tuya/Smart Life account with SmartThings, you’re creating a chain of communication between two clouds: the SmartThings cloud and the Tuya cloud. Your SmartThings command (for example “set color to blue”) goes to SmartThings’ servers, which then ask the Tuya cloud to execute it on the device. The strip itself only “understands” what the Tuya cloud tells it.
Since this strip is controlled via the Tuya cloud, the problem you’re seeing (network/server error) occurs when the Tuya cloud doesn’t recognise or support that specific color or dimming command for this device via the SmartThings link, even though on/off commands may work fine.
In short: the integration is handled by Tuya’s cloud interface, not SmartThings directly. So while SmartThings forwards the request, only Tuya defines which device functions are exposed through that link. If dimming or color commands fail, it usually means the Tuya side hasn’t exposed or mapped those capabilities for your particular model - so the SmartThings command can’t be executed.
That’s why we prefer devices that are directly connected to our SmartThings hubs - in my case the Nanoleaf Essentials Matter over Thread strip connected to my Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2.
If I remember correctly, Tuya actually offers two separate SmartThings integrations: Tuya and Smart Life. Even though they share the same backend, they sometimes use different servers or device definitions. So try linking your strip through both apps - first Tuya, then Smart Life - and see which one handles color and dimming correctly.
I tried with both apps and it still doesn’t work. Even turning it on and off doesn’t always work. I have a light strip of another brand that I don’t have a problem with. Should I assume the problem is not with SmartThings?
If the cloud integration doesn’t expose these features, SmartThings can’t do anything. Just replace this strip with a model that works.
Unfortunately, it has already been purchased, and it wasn’t that cheap either
