Just to clarify, if you have backup power to the hub, you can get a push notification when your hub has gone offline (and another notification when it comes back online). Unfortunately I don’t believe there is a way to get a notification when the hub is still online but the SmartThings cloud goes down.
The problem is that historically the cloud effectively goes down several times a month, for anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. It definitely wouldn’t meet the UL standards for a security system. But different people require different levels of reliability for their own peace of mind. As long as you are aware of the issue, it’s obviously your choice. 
I stumbled on this site and hope it will be helpful… we have only had Iris about 6 months. In our quest to replace with a comparable device, we wanted to be able to utilize the existing door sensors and water detection devices from Iris along with a Utilitech Glass breakage monitor. We do not wish to have a contract or pay for monitoring. I first purchased the Smarthings Hub which worked well with the Smartthings app and paired with all the devices, however, we decided we wanted a keypad system, but could not find a way to address that need. In addition, the Hub system did not send an alarm signal via cell phone or go off at the residence. It would send a notification, but we did not feel that was enough. I then decided to purchase the ADT/Samsung Smartthings home system. It obviously offers the keypad and alarm built in. We were able to pair the existing (Iris) devices with the Smartthings app and programed the ADT keypad thinking we were connecting to the ADT Hub … not the case. Is it possible to use the existing Iris devices and connect the ADT hub and smartthings app to communicate and function like the IRIS system did? Is it possible or are we attempting to do something that will not work? If any one has any suggestions or guidance, it would be greatly appreciated. The goal was to use the existing Iris devices / smartthings app and integrate it with the ADT hub. Trying to avoid having to purchase all new equipment and starting over. thx
With the adt hub, you can use your existing devices for automation, but not security.

So If I intend to use the ADT hub for home security, I will need to use the compatible ADT sensors instead of the IRIS, correct?
Does anyone know of any product out there that is compatible with the IRIS sensors for home security or are they useless except for maybe automation needs?
That is correct that if you want to trigger a call to the ADT monitoring center, you have to be using the ADT dual logo sensors.
The iris sensors are not UL listed for security, so most third-party systems will not accept them.

There is currently an option through the classic app to use the paid scout monitoring service with any sensors that work with smartthings, but it’s important to note that that option is only available for intrusion alerts (contact and motion sensors), they will not monitor smoke detectors through the smartthings Integration.

I can appreciate your response and thank you for that information… as far as monitoring goes, we are not interested in a contract to pay for monitoring, thus do not need for the security to report to a central station or supporting company. just want to be able to do our own self monitoring.

If you don’t mind the cloud being involved you could load the ADT tools app. With it you can configure your non ADT Sensors to trigger alarm on secondary sirens among other things.
That may be an option… would you mind elaborating more about that or head me in the right direction to understand the process better?

Basically you have to load it in the Smartthings Groovy IDE. If you are not familar with that there is some good information at Thingsthataresmart.com that can help.
There are many ways it can be setup depending on your hardware and exactly how you want it to work. If you have problems with the setup feel free to drop a post in the release thread above with the details about what you are trying to do and i will try to help. The big thing to keep in mind is there are 3 main functions.
- Notification for Alarm mode change
- Mode change management with virtual buttons.
- Alarm Alert action apps that trigger a set of actions when the alarm goes off.
If I may ask, if we go this direction, will it allow us to use the ADT keypad the came in the home security starter kit? And will we be able to use our cell phone and the app to monitor and control devices?
It is designed to work with the ADT Smartthings panel actually so you have to have it. It just enhances it’s integration so anything you can do already continues to work.
The non ADT hub can use sirens.
You just have to turn that feature on in home monitor.
How do I get the ADT tools app? I see looks, but they aren’t apps. They are they codes. Am I supposed to compile these somehow? Thanks?
Is this Perimeter, Enter/Exit, and No Response classification for ADT installations, stock ST, or both?
You need to go to the Smartthings IDE and add the Smartapp code there and then you publish it to yourself. I believe there are some good tutorials at Thingsthataresmart.com
The setup is done as part of the ADT Security Dashboard. I would expect you can do similar things based on how you setup and select sensors with Smart Home Monitor, but i am not sure of exactly how you would go about it. The no response is simple in that you just wouldn’t include it in the SHM setup.

Any chance you were able to add an Iris Smart Switch? It does not connect to a hub, it has it’s own wifi that gets connected.
