I have hall lights (OSRAM) that are motion activated. What I use is the built in smart lighting app and two rules. Instead of using sunrise and sunset, I use times to control as there are times after sunset that we would want the lights brighter… ie before bed.(but you can use sunrise and sunset if you want)
So, Rule 1 that is named “Upstairs Hall Motion Bright”, runs from 8 AM to 9:59 PM. It is set to trigger the lights at 100% (Turn on and set level) when motion is detected and turn off after motion stops.
Rule 2 that is named “Upstairs Hall Motion Night Light” runs from 10 PM to 7:59AM. It is set to trigger the lights at 20% under the same conditions as above.
You could use the same type of rules. I have found that even after power outages, they know what time it is and don’t need a special dim instruction sent. (Of course, after a power outage they will come on, and if you walk past the motion sensors, the rule takes effect and they dim… yes, it’s already happened once)
Problem for me is, the lights are activated by are hardwired ceiling PIR sensor, I have no wall switch. The sensing is effectively the wall switch in your scenario. The bulbs will have no power until someone walks in the room. At which point I want them to go to the appropriate brightness for the time of day.
I may look into bypassing the ceiling PIR if it comes to it and buying a Smartthings sensor
Might not have to bypass it. If you put a second motion sensor (smartthings or iris) on it and use the same rules, it should act like mine do after a power failure… I get a blip of bright light and then they dim instantly. Once they are dimmed once, they come back on at the last setting they had and then adjust for the time of day in the smart lighting rules. However, if you are using zigbee devices, they may act a bit weird if they have no power for an extended amount of time (Falling on and off the mesh) They are designed to be always connected to power.
I bought a e26 1000 and am having issues with the device handlers. I’ve tried the few DH that @Edvald recommended and the one that @kristian.andrews built and no dice. My ST sees the device, but nothing happens when I click the on/off button. Any recommendations on how to get this bulb to work?
Smart things app info (I’m not sure how to find the firmware of the hub)
2.5.0 Build 214462
edit
Figured it out. Here are the steps I got it to work.
removed the device from my IDE
Reset the lights (on off 6/7 times)
Searched for the device.
When it finds it, use the IDE to switch the device to ZLL Dimmer Bulb
If you wanted to try Stringify - (which works fine with Tradfri through Smartthings) - you could set up something like - anytime the bulbs turn on between x and x (night time) dim them to x. When they turn on between x and x (daytime) set to 100%. I’m not home - but I believe this works even when the bulb has been powered off and is then flicked on. I’ll give it a quick test tonight).
Updated the firmware in TRÅDFRI
Update all in hue
Reset the bulb
Then trying to get the hue to see it.
So far the hue will not discover the bulb?
Any ideas.

I believe @Edvald has made some progress with a DTH for the remote, but I’m not 100% certain. I did a quick search and couldn’t find the thread, but hopefully he’ll chime in on it.
Yes, you can get the remote to work with the bulb and smartthings at the same time. But only dimming and on off work, not color temperature with the remote.
Does the 1000lm bulb (the one with no white spectrum, just dimmable) work in ST? If so, does it require EDVALD’s device handler? (I read in the handler therad that that bulb is not supported… is it because it doesnt require a specific handler and it works out of the box?)
I understand that you can control a bulb with both an ikea device and ST. But does the dimmer (puck-style) only work with the 1000lm bulb, or can you also pair it with the white-spectrub bulbs (of course losing the temp control, which anyway does not currently work with the 5-button remote if used as a secondary controller on top of ST)
Exactly the same problem here. I bought the gateway, a remote and 4x 1000 lumen bulbs. so far I can couple the remote but none of the bulbs, neither directly to the gateway nor to the remote.
Hi, I’m pretty new to ST, can I ask how you paired the 1000lm bulbs?
I added the edvaldeysteinsson DH and managed to get the bulb to show up as “Thing”.
But it won’t let me rename it. ("Failed to rename Thing! Please try again.)
And if I try to just add it without renaming I get an error too. (Sorry but there was an unexpected error.)
