Ikea smart lighting advice

The IKEA Tradfri bulbs are now very easy to use. Just add them to your hue bridge, and then they should show up like any of your other bulbs attached to that bridge.

All of the forum posts which are older than October 2017 will discuss other ways of using them with SmartThings by connecting them directly to the SmartThings hub, and if you like, you can try that method, but you don’t need to.

If your IKEA bulbs cannot be added to the hue bridge, they need a firmware update. At the present time, that can only be done with the IKEA Gateway, so you would need to buy the gateway, add the bulbs to it and update the firmware, then add The bulbs to the hue bridge. Ikea support can help with that process if you get stuck.

And, good news-- as long as the remotes have the most current firmware, they now meet the ZLL standard and can be added to the hue bridge! :sunglasses: :level_slider::bulb: This is new as of early November 2017. The following video shows you exactly how to do this.

By the way, no one cares about this next part except me, so feel free to ignore it, but I am assuming that you meant the “hue bridge,” as there is no “hue hub.” :sunglasses:
