I recently added the IKEA GRILLPLATS smart plug to my SmartThings setup via Matter. Pairing worked fine and I can control the device without issues.
However, I noticed that the plug does not appear in the SmartThings Energy dashboard, even though it supports energy monitoring and reports power usage data.
From what I understand, the device is capable of providing detailed energy metrics over Matter, so I expected it to show up similarly to other energy-monitoring devices.
And Aqara smart plugs, in this case Zigbee.
Lets see if the recently announced here Partner Announcement between ST and IKEA implies there maybe a change coming here.
By the way, I just checked if the same would apply to the Tapo P110M via Matter but no luck. I really don’t understand SmartThings Energy, P110M with cloud integration is supported but not via Matter 1.3.
I was wondering about that. I probably bought the plugs too early. I wonder how many of my other devices will be supported when I reconnect them? A list of supported devices would be helpful…
Ha! My master plan is finally paying off!
Now I can swap out all my fancy Eve Energy plugs for IKEA’s budget-friendly alternatives, sell the Eves for a tidy profit, and waltz straight into a well-deserved early retirement. Back in the day everyone laughed at me for splurging on those premium Eve plugs… but guess who’s not laughing anymore?
I’ve twice purchased second hand Eve Energy plugs, their full price, or even a heavily discounted full price, being as ridiculous as their size. Both were completely dead on arrival.
I do have to put Grillplats somewhere where out of sight as when they are the right way up the ‘MAX 13A’ on the front is upside down. It is a carry over from the Tradfri plug which was always pictured upside down and designed so the LED was obscured by the plug lead and the reset hole was hidden underneath (not good for skirting height sockets).
The UK 13 A mains plug is great. It is the Eve Energy that is massive. Here it is next to a Grillplats, which is itself pretty chunky, but no more so than an Onvis S4 Matter.
I know exactly what you’re talking about. We have the same issue with our 62 GHz presence sensor (Aqara FP2) in the kitchen. Even though the bananas are several meters away, they still turn brown within a day.
But surprisingly, the strawberries last for eight weeks.
Being in SmartThings Energy service or not depends on partnerships with SmartThings to be in “the list”. List that is not even public so nobody knows which devices wil appear or not unless they happen to have one and check it out
