How to know when a device goes AWOL?

I recently discovered that my ST sensors (motion and multi sensors that came with ST kit) all decided to go on extended vacation without telling me. ST app was still showing them as having plenty of battery, but when I checked the logs, they hadn’t reported in to the hub in a couple months.

So much for relying on them for any type of security… any of those windows could have been opened and it would not have been reported to the hub since July.

Is there any smart app that can notify you if any of your devices go offline for an extended period?

I’m waiting for some cell batteries to show up to get these sensors back online. It would have been nice if the ST app had displayed accurate battery levels for them so I could have replaced them when they were getting low.

How do you guys deal with this issue?

There are a number of community – created “wellness check” smart apps you can use for this. I think " simple device Viewer" is the most popular right now but different ones have different features. :sunglasses:

You can find them by looking on the quick browse lists in the community – created wiki in the smart app section and look on the “wellness check” list.

If you haven’t used custom code before, it’s pretty straightforward. Basically you will copy the author’s code and paste it into your own account. Here’s the FAQ for that process:

Would a WebCore piston help?
