How do I make lights and buttons work without an Internet connection?

That’s very good news! :sunglasses:

I believe I can claim this topic to be solved.

It didn’t quite end up the way I had thought. I had initially set my mind to using IKEA inlays (might be the wrong word, this is a link for reference: https://www.m.nu/vagghallare-for-fjarrkontroller-ikea-hue-xiaomi/adapter-for-ikea-on-off-insert) for my wall switch frames (3D printed) and use IKEA Trådfri buttons to control the Philips Hue lights.

However, it seems that IKEA Trådfri buttons are executed in the cloud (could this be solved in a future ST update?), so if my Internet connection went down (or 4G modem - the router would still work), I still wouldn’t be able to control the lights.

What I ended up with, after extended testing, is a Shelly Dimmer 2 (https://shelly.cloud/products/shelly-dimmer-2-smart-home-light-controller/). It’s wired behind my current wall buttons so I can keep using my current ones and I don’t have to disable them and add Hue Dimmers or Trådfri buttons next to them. It looks much better than adding another set of buttons of course.

Of course, the Shelly Dimmer 2 is also executed in the cloud, but since it is directly wired to the button I can still use the physical buttons to turn on/off and dim the bulb. Of course, I am forced to switch back to “dumb” bulbs again, but that’s fine. It will even work if my whole network would go down for any reason (router issue, cable issue or whatever) since - again - I still have access to physical buttons.

I like the Dimmer 2 because I can change transition time, so I can choose how long it will dim down to 0% when turned off (IKEA Trådfri has no such setting, Hue doesn’t either, but has a smooth dim when turned off).

And, while I wouldn’t recommend it for regular use, it’s also possible to use the Dimmer 2 as a wireless repeater. I would never personally use this at home to connect important devices, or devices which need good latency or speed, but I can see myself using it to extend basic wireless out to the second garage for the solar panels to connect to, for example. Maybe the pool house. An Access Point would be better, but I’m just saying, it has its uses.

Shelly Dimmer 2 is also only slightly more expensive than buying the IKEA Trådfri button and the frame inlay. Shelly Dimmer 2 is slightly more expensive if you buy only one, but a 4-pack makes it about the same price, at least in Sweden. With the added benefit of what I mentioned above.

I haven’t ordered Shelly Dimmer 2 for the rest of my house yet, so if anyone has any input, I’d love to hear it before I make the purchase.

Did you find it in the Classic or new app? I’m not seeing a backend change that added it for Sweden. Availability is determined by the regional groups. In this case that is likely Samsung Sverige.

It is now available in the new app, which wasn’t the case previously.

Had the same issue, what i did was i added it in the Classic app then it appered in the new app, before that i was unable to see any smart apps at all in the newer app, also located in Sweden.

That might have been the reason then. I went into the Classic app a couple of days ago and found it there. I didn’t add anything though. So that might be it, because it’s now available in the new app as well.

My bad, I use text to speech and heard the name incorrectly, I’ll delete my post above. My apologies for any confusion.
