Hey folks, I am new here. Although I have been following you in a while.
I am trying to control some bulbs that are not compartible with smartthings but can be controlled via alexa and google home.
Created smartthings virtial switch and added it to the group to monitor the status of the bulbs via smartthings.
One thing I want to do is to be able to switch off the groul via smartthings. I wonder if I can switch off the virtual switch and the group will turn off.
I want to include that action in my routines such that I dont have to say alexa or google turn off.
Especially when I am not at home.
Like a goodbye routine as I leave for work.
You can do this, but it’s going to be a bit more complex because your other switches are not visible to SmartThings. So you will need to use an echo routine (not a SmartThings routine) to have the switches work together.
There’s an FAQ on how to do it. (The topic title is a clickable link). Take a look at that and see if it’s clear on your next steps.
By the way, depending on the exact brand and model of the non-compatible switches you might also be able to use IFTTT. Or someone might have created a cloud to cloud integration already. See the following FAQ for that, but the echo method described in my previous post should definitely work.
Thanks. Those were helpful.
Although i couldnt follow exactly the steps as i am neither in UK or US but it helped in my thought line. I eventually used ifttt and its working pefectly.
