Home Monitor won't load ST App - HELP

Seems the ST App on my phone has started having an issue when I open the ST App, where “Home Monitor” just has a spinning icon. This happens whether the phone is on my home wifi or not (cellular). Most of the time it won’t load at all, so I just give up. If I do wait, it can take two or three minutes to load, but other times it will load in a few seconds. Meanwhile, the hub is online, all the devices are online, and find my device is online.

Nothing has changed in my setup, same hub, same devices, same wifi… I have tried all these things and it has not helped:

  • cleared app data
  • uninstalled app / re-installed app
  • rebooted hub
  • rebooted wifi router
  • checked battery level in all devices

As a work around, I have resorted to opening Home Monitor in a browser on my phone. I just go to my.smartthings.com, where Home Monitor is showing “System ready to arm” and I can arm/disarm easily.

Hub v3
ST version 1.8.21.28
Galaxy s23+
Android 14
One UI 6.1

You’re not alone…

Happens all the time here recently. This is one of the most important parts in ST and should work 99.99%.

We have a parallel thread here:

Going on about a week now where Home Monitor usually takes from 30 seconds to 5 minutes to load in the app, both on the Home/favorites and the Life tab.

This is happening on multiple Android devices. Clearing cache and force stopping the app has no impact.

Toggling any device network settings (WiFi on/off, airplane mode, cellular data, VPN) seems to help it to load a bit faster.

Edit: Scratch that on the network settings, I just did some additional tests this morning and Home Monitor loading/not loading doesn’t actually seem to be impacted when toggling these settings. It was just coincidence that it would finally load as I was trying everything.

It does load immediately on a new page when I click the dashboard tile.

ST App: 1.8.21.28
V2 Hub: 55.5
Android Verizon: 14

I am have the same problem.

@Mariano_Colmenarejo has an edge drive with the ability to change Monitoring modes.

Now consistently seeing the same creating new (or editing existing) routines:

That is helpful to have as an option.

I don’t know what we would do without @Mariano_Colmenarejo, and others who make these drivers that make up for all the shortcomings in the “new” SmartThings.

My SmartThings setup seems to now be a mountain of hacks and tweaks to get me closer to what used to just work before.

Hopfullly the team hasn’t abandoned Home Monitor as unimportant because their roadmap says most users just want to link/control an appliance, and don’t use SmartThings for robust home automation.

STHM doesn’t work here either, but the Virtual Security device works perfectly.

Now also lost whatever the 3rd routine group is - can’t remember the group name but it has disappeared since this thread started:

I’m having the problems loading STHM too but they definitely only started today for me.

I’ve been using a virtual security device for several years. I used to use it with automations to set the Security Mode but these days ‘the system’ does that bit automatically. ‘The system’ also runs the commands to set the security device automatically whenever the Security Mode changes, except that it yet again has stopped doing that when I arm the Security Mode by a timed Routine in the evening. It’s always been problematic and others have said the same. The digression being that is why I particularly notice if STHM is responding or not.

No issues with the Routines page except that my custom SmartApps can’t be updated. That’s been a problem for months now.

Update: I can open Home Monitor with the summary tile (aka Home Insights) when the Favourites and Life tiles just give spinny things, but it neither reports the mode correctly or lets it be changed. So the same problem is there but it looks different.

Second update: While STHM is in spinny mode it isn’t possible to dismiss alarms. This is particularly irritating when STHM doesn’t know it is meant to be disarmed.

I’m in the US and don’t see any issue.

It is working OK for me in the UK now.

Oh hang on, no it isn’t. I must have left the app active long enough to connect.

I have the same problem with home monitor since yesterday.

The dashboard above the favorites isn’t working either. It rarely updates the status of the devices even though the devices itself report correctly on the app and on the web interface.

Not for me. All 3 devices not working.

Additional testing after clicking the dashboard tile reveals that Home Monitor is not functioning there either.

I did not realize how often we used Home Monitor until now, hopefully it can be fixed soon.
