Hampton Bay Zigbee fan controller not pairing

I took to snap shots of what the SmartThings app shows after pairing with the fan control. It recognizes it as “Thing” and says click okay to complete finalization or something like that, after doing that this is what it shows. You can say that it says please wait beside it. N f I click on Thing you can see in the second picture it says please wait too. It just never goes any further than that.

Oops. That was the second picture. Being a new user I can only upload one picture and I hit the wrong one. Here is the other.

So, I’m looking for any insight or suggestions for an issue I am seeing with my fan controllers. I just received three controllers from Home Depot. I am trying to reset my fan controller, since they cant seem to pair to the ST hub, and cant seem to get it to work. As a note, I added the Device handlers to the IDE before I started.

I have followed the instructions to reset the controllers by powering off the controller at the breaker 5 times with 3 sec intervals. Despite this, I never get the lights to flash. This behavior is the same on a second controller I tested.

Am I missing something?

How do you have the controller wired to the fan?

The Controller is hard wired to the breaker(no wall switch) White to Neutral(white), Red to load(black).
On the fan, the wires are going to the correct leads. I can use the remote and it works well.

Since it is hard wired to the breaker, I have been using the breaker for the power cycling. the good thing is that I can see the fan from where the breaker is.

so, I figured out how to pair the controller. It looks like it was a range thing. I placed the hub in the same room to pair the controller. Looks like Zigbee rally does have less range.
Once paired, I moved the hub and it seems to still work. I have a few more controllers to add so I hope that helps out.

I never did to get the reset to work but maybe that is because there was no config to reset.

I recently got this controller and have the KOF items setup in smartthings but I am having some real issues getting it to pair still, can anyone offer assistance?

I have tried a number of times to reset the fan to factory to no avail, it still has a wall switch so I can cut power to it easily but for the life of me this thing will not reset and I don’t know if I am doing something wrong or not.

I tried it with a zigbee repeater 10ft away that was connected so it shouldn’t be a range thing, and the fan remote works flawlessly so I am confident the wiring is right (I replaced a dumb module with this).

I believe that you can’t pair your device through the repeater. I would try bringing the hub into the same room as the fan and trying again. Then move the hub back and if it needs the repeater it will find it’s way there.

I’m not sure if that’s true - I was successful pairing my 3rd floor fan with the hub on the 1st floor, with a repeater close to the fan as that’s been a strong recommendation from the start on these.

However, my assumption is that the controller should be able to be reset regardless of what it’s in range of. I’m experiencing the same thing with another fan that lost its connection after about a week of operation - it’s still connected to a switch so it’s easy for me to cut power on and off but I’m unable to get it to respond. I successfully reset my first, working fan when I initially paired it so it seems like an individual unit failure but I haven’t gotten around to contacting KOF support yet.

I’m having this same issue. Did you find the solution? Was this related to the device handler not being installed?

Ok, I found the issue. You have to create and publish the Device Handler. Look at jkp’s post above. It’s not as hard as it sounds.

I moved the hub to the same room and it immediately paired up, thanks this seemed to fix my problem.

Maybe that means it refuses to reset if it isn’t currently paired? I guess I need to try moving my hub.

For any of you trying to do the factory reset, I just had to do it. I don’t know if it only does it with the Wink hub or what but the light does not flash. I did the reset and it definitely reset because I was able to pair again. No blinking. Just do the on-off 5x thing and it will be reset.

OK, I just moved my hub to the same spot where I had a working Zigbee plug and as soon as I flipped power back on, the lights flashed and the fan paired, so I guess I was successful in resetting it at some point. I settled on moving the outlet from the room right above the fan to an outlet below / in the same room and so far, so good…

I,m having the same problem

Have 4 receiver installed

2 of them working fine
1 pair successfully but hard to command from ST
1 pair one time then after 15 min stop working and reset cutting off the power but no success when trying to pair it again.

Any recommendations?

Have you tried repeaters for the ones you are having issues with?

Yes and nothing happen

Have 2 ZigBee smart bulbs and work without the repeater so signal is not the problem I think

These controllers have weak radios. Many people find unless the controller is next to the hub they don’t work very well. I have 2 myself. One without a repeater and one with, I also have a smart bulb in the closet of the room with the repeater (our bedroom) that works fine without the repeater.

Have you removed the batteries and powered down your hub for 20-30 minutes to get your zigbee mesh to rebuild itself? Also, when you do the mesh rebuild, you may want to remove the smart bulbs until the mesh is rebuilt and then reintroduce them. Smart bulbs can make lousy repeaters. It can take hours for your mesh to rebuild so be patient.

I know the threads for the fan controller are huge but they have a lot if info in them that speak to the problems that you are experiencing.

What are you using for repeaters? There was another community member that had a Sylvania smart plug he thought was a repeater and it turns out it wasn’t. He bought a Peanut plug and his fan controller works now.

I have iris smart plug

So you recommend remove the smart bulbs and then do the ZigBee mesh rebuild?
