Motion sensor isn’t very fast and the contact sensors are a bit on the largish size. However, I believe these sensors have contacts that allow you to create custom sensors such as a water detector or pressure mat sensor.

Great for those DIY custom sensors.

This actually isn’t a very good deal, CamelCamelCamel shows that it was less than $40 just last month, and less than $30 as recently as June. CamelCamelCamel

Same as current every day price at HD, if you can actually find any that weren’t already clearances out at $20 or less.

Those were only $45 on Amazon, $50 ( when not on sale ) at HD from day one. I can’t see people blowing up to save $1

True, dat. Motion detection is way slow, but useful in non critical applications. Motion detectors have fairly accurate temperature sensors, as well, from my experience.

The external contact on the contact sensor is useful: I have one in use here to monitor our wired smoke alarms with a modified DTH.

Luckily I scored 2 of the larger packages of these at a Home Depot clearance for their $13.03 (?) clearance price. There are much better sensors to be had than these…

Being Z-wave, it is easier to keep them connected. I have never had one of these drop off in over 2 years of use. The only issue I had was with one on far basement door. I paired it by the hub and then started walking along playing with it. Noticed it was slow to report when I got about 4 feet from where it was going to live. Aeon ZW appliance module on the washing machine , tells me when laundry is done and acts as repeater, and it has never once given me a problem. I have another mounted on freezer to make sure it isn’t left open and it is still on the original battery after over 2 years.

You’re right about the contact sensors, @RLDreams, I was referring to the motion sensors. Sorry, should have been more clear

Thinking about it further, with motion sensors, IMHO, it depends on the use case, as @JDRoberts would correctly point out. Automation of lighting might require faster response time than, say, a typical security alarm system…

I have 4 of the motion sensors, and they all work fine. Yes they may be a couple seconds slower, but I use them more as occupancy sensors. Like on the back porch. If any of the 3 doors open the lights come on. Also have one of these motions mounted at either end of the room. On with motion, off if no motion for 5 minutes.
Same setup in the basements and front halls. Doors open, lights on, no motion for 5 minutes lights off.

I moved to a new house recently and found a couple box of the essential bundles I never used. I just listed them on Amazon for $28 for the unopened one and $26 for the opened box one missing the mounting tape for the motion sensor.

Essential Bundle unopened $28 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XUXYSWU SOLD
Essential Bundle opened $26 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XUXYSWU SOLD

And if you are looking for just a one or two more sensors here are some I am selling as well.
