Getting 500 error when using Simulator to test Service Manager

Following the docs “Building Cloud-Connected Device Types” but when I try to open the link to the 3rd party oauth page, the simulator preference page just spins, and Chrome network inspector shows a 500 error to /ide/app/page or something like that. Is this a supported way to test?

It works fine when testing on my phone.

It’s my understanding that the simulator is pretty much broken. I think most if not all developers publish their apps and test live with the mobile app. I know that is what I do.
