From what I understand there is a custom device type for the GE bulbs. Mine are connected through my Hue hub. They don’t dim as well as a hue bulb and I would like for them to. Can I still use the device type or will it mess up the connection with the Hue hub?
The device type won’t work if they’re connected through the hue hub. The device type instructs the ST hub how to communicate with the bulb via Zigbee, but for bulbs connected through Hue, the Zigbee commands come from the hue hub. ST tells hue through the cloud what to send, but it’s very generic.
While the custom device type has some nice features like transition time, it probably won’t change dim performance. The issue you’re experiencing is probably because hue bulbs are just better hardware.
