Frient EMI 2 p1 meter with smartthing

Hello everyone,

I live in the Netherlands. I am trying to integrate a Frient EMI2 P1 meter with SmartThings, but I am getting completely unrealistic measurements and I am not sure whether this is a driver issue or something else.

My setup:

  • Samsung Frame TV

  • Samsung SmartThings Hub Dongle VG-STDB10A

  • Frient EMI2 P1 Meter

  • Landis+Gyr smart meter (DSMR 5.0.2)

  • SmartThings Edge driver: “Zigbee Power/Meter” (Developer: SmartThings)

The EMI2 is detected successfully and appears online in SmartThings. The Zigbee connection is stable and the device is communicating with the hub.

However, the reported values are clearly incorrect:

  • Voltage: 65.5 kV

  • Current: 65.5 kA

  • Power per phase: around -32.8 kW

  • Total power: around -8.4 GW

The LED on the EMI2 is continuously blinking red.

I have already:

  • Removed and re-added the device multiple times

  • Reset the EMI2 multiple times

  • Re-paired the SmartThings Hub

  • Added a Zigbee router (Philips Hue Smart Plug connected to SmartThings) between the hub and the meter

  • Confirmed that the smart meter is a Landis+Gyr DSMR 5.0.2 meter

The device is currently assigned to the SmartThings “Zigbee Power/Meter” driver.

My questions:

  1. Is the EMI2 supposed to use a dedicated Frient Edge driver instead of the generic SmartThings Zigbee Power/Meter driver?

  2. Has anyone successfully connected a Frient EMI2 to a Samsung SmartThings Hub Dongle VG-STDB10A?

  3. Could the incorrect values indicate that the device is being interpreted by the wrong driver?

  4. Does the continuously blinking red LED indicate a known issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been troubleshooting this for more than a week now.

65536 and 32768. I smell a (binary) rat.

Frient do have their own Edge drivers for some of their products. Check if there is one for this device.

Thank you, that is exactly what I was thinking as well.

The values seem suspiciously close to binary boundary values rather than actual power measurements.

The device is currently using the SmartThings “Zigbee Power/Meter” Edge driver, not a dedicated Frient driver.

I have been trying to find and install a Frient-specific Edge driver, but so far SmartThings always assigns the generic Zigbee Power/Meter driver.

Do you know if there is currently a dedicated Edge driver available for the EMI2 P1 meter? Can you help me find it?

… which means they’re supposed to work out of the box. Is your meter on the list of compatibles?

The devices are WWST certified, the driver was provided by the vendor/manufacturer and was merged about two weeks ago. (Edit: in production)

For some time now, frient is migrating their drivers from their own channel to the official SmartThings drivers.

Is it a good or a bad sign? What does the manual say?
