Flashing Sonoff Basic with 8285

I have read hundreds of posts and still cannot find instructions on how to flash my Sonoff Basic so that I can use it with my Samsung hub. I could really care less whether I use the EXpeasy (or whatever its called) or Tasmoto firmware.
To clarify: there are plenty of instructions on how to flash the ones with the 8266 and almost as many posts saying it doesn’t work with 8285.

I am not a total beginner, but not a developer. I have a github acct and have installed device handlers and smart apps, but this has been impossible to figure out.
Can someone point me in the right direction to a beginner step-by-step set of instructions to do this?

I have the Sonoff board, the leads, header, FT232RL adapter, a PC, and a brain. I have all of the pins identified on the Sonoff and the adapter and know to cross the Tx and Rx pins.

My Sonoff board must be the new style because it doesn’t look like any of the tutorials I have found so far.

I have 21 smarthings set up in my house with 2 hubs and use Smartthings, Insteon, Stringify, IFTTT, Webcore, etc, so I am not completely stupid

Any help is appreciated.

The only firmware I have been able to flash on the devices from gearbest is that which is referenced here

GitHub

arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota

Provide ESP8266 based itead Sonoff with Web, MQTT and OTA firmware using Arduino IDE or PlatformIO - arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota

It can’t poll the current state of the device…which isn’t very handy

Thanks for the reply. I will give that a try and post my results.

If anyone is having the same problem, this is how to do it
