Firmware update Wednesday

Yikes! That’s my fault. Forgot to include the time zone in the email blast for today.

It’s EST.

@joelw135

Everyone is getting this firmware update from what I can tell. It just will be rolled out over time.

Correct. Staged roll out. Everyone will get the update.

Looks like my firmware update has already started but failed. I happened to be checking the logs for a different reason and this came across:

Interesting… I got it too. But mine completed and I am on the following

000.013.00005
zigbeeFirmware: 1.5.4
zwaveVersion: 809

My feature request finally made it in! Nice… Of course, it was really needed to be able to swap to a new hub…since I’m guessing the code base to replace a failed device is similar to what will do the migration?

yep. i would also assume the same thing

Can somebody explain this part to me, please? Willing to learn. Is it like providing the current time so that other devices on the network can synchronize to a common time value???

Eric, I have the same

It is explained here:

OK, so I couldn’t wait for a response from support why my firmware failed so I tried recycling the power on my hub in hopes that it would try again. Now I get the following:

e8af73f1-3d38-4e00-b3a2-f52fdaca0edf 11:28:00 AM: trace cp desc: firmware update ember version: 01.05.0004
e8af73f1-3d38-4e00-b3a2-f52fdaca0edf 11:27:59 AM: trace cp desc: register
e8af73f1-3d38-4e00-b3a2-f52fdaca0edf 11:27:59 AM: trace cp desc: stack status: 90
e8af73f1-3d38-4e00-b3a2-f52fdaca0edf 11:26:22 AM: trace cp desc: firmware update main failed
e8af73f1-3d38-4e00-b3a2-f52fdaca0edf 11:26:22 AM: trace cp desc: hub has disconnected

So it looks like it is failed and isn’t going to try again until something gives it a push.

Others see a firmware attempt succeed or fail?

Mine was successful 1

2 success and 1 failure so far.

Add another success. Rebooted the hub remotely and it forced the update

Mine was successful with no intervention required.

Mine was successful too with no issues looking at the logs. Is this supposed to make any noticeable difference for us average users on things that we do everyday with ST?

Hope this update brings in some reliability to the hub as well… Adding in to excitement which this thread has generated!

Depends on what version you’re coming from. If you were already up to date (11.705 or 12.064 or something close) I doubt you’ll see huge performance improvements unless people are encountering issues with their Z-Wave network. Our network repair has been improved and will continue to be improved in future firmware versions as we build out more functionality to monitor and correct issues with network and device health.

If someone is coming from a firmware version older than that this updated version will include fixes related to LAN devices and improved performance sending commands to multiple LAN devices at once.

edit:

I also want to mention that we’re working on a more streamlined firmware update process. In the very near future we’ll have notifications in the app so that you can self-select when you want to update to the most recent version.

@tyler Thanks a lot for the info. Did you get promoted by any chance? If yes, congrats! I didn’t notice “Support Lead at SmartThings” earlier or may be was blind!
