The one that appeared to work doesnt let me into the software update page to see the version number. I click settings, device, then software update it just returns without opening… I presume cause it succesfully blocked them.
The one that appeared not to work lets me into the software update page and it says one software update is pending and the current version is 5.4.0.1
From XDA -
If you’re on 5.4.0.1, it will fail. You have to downgrade back to 5.4.0.0 in order to uninstall/disable system apps.
Edit: I haven’t found a way to downgrade from this without hard-bricking, so DON’T DO IT!
Darn. I ran through the script hoping to use this. I am on 5.4.0.1.
Does it integrate with Arlo or Blue Iris?
I’ve seen multiple reports of successful downgrades on XDA from 5.4.0.1 to 5.4.0.0. It seems to depend on what hardware you have. for those of you interested, just google, fireos 5.4.0.1 downgrade. Theres lots of talk about it.
Actiontiles does integrate with blueiris, not sure about arlo. I avoid wireless cameras.
Yes, if you are not able to see the system update app, it successfully blocked the updates.
If you want you can try to downgrade, but I would only do it if you were in the return window.
the good news is the scrips still works with 5.4.0.1 as an easy way to at least get the google interface install fully and lanouncer. It honestly doesn’t bother me that much that the fire apps stayed loaded on the device cause fully is running all the time anyways. So all in all don’t think just cause you have 5.4.0.1 that the script isnt useful cause it still is
Agreed. Makes the Google process much easier.
So we are screwed if we have 5.6.0 ?
just wont be able to remove the amazon ads on the lock screen, or the amazon apps. You can still install the rest though.
I dont have the ads already. So I’m not losing much then.
5.6.0 wouldn’t be the 7th gen Fire HD 8… Which fire do you have?
just realized that there is no way of installing the Amazon Alexa App on my tablets…Oh the Irony…
Anyone have any success with the brand new Fire HD 8’s that Amazon had for $49.99 for Black Friday? I wanted to give this script a try, but didn’t want to brick my devices either. Should I check the firmware version before giving it a go? Thanks in advance for the help -
This won’t break anything because it’s not doing any firmware work. Worst
it will do is show up a bunch of errors on the console for the program and
you’ll still have all the Amazon apps installed.
Okay, great – will give it a try. Thanks!
Yes it’s a gen7
I have all 4 APK’s needed to get google on the tablet. It takes a total of 3 mins to setup each tablet. This script would be helpful if it could remove the amazon apps. But im on 5.6 so i guess im stuck with them anyways…
I have two HD8s running 5.6 that were manually setup prior to the release of this script. I’ve encountered no issues with any of the Amazon apps or software while using them for ActionTiles display with Fully Kiosk browser, and Lannouncer speech devices.
