Fibaro RGBW Controller (DTH link in post 32, police light smartapp link in post 79)

FANTASTIC! Thanks so much @twack

@twack is there any way for a a holiday (green and red) light show to be added to the code? I have tried unsuccessfully to do it with other SmartApps and I thought it would be cool to do that for the kids. Maybe using a modified version of dark fade?

@fraserjr See my comment above:

@fraserjr Sounds like the Rule Machine one minute limit doesn’t fit your need. This must have been one of the new SmartThings limitations added because the Flasher app turns lights on and off within seconds. I wonder if Flasher has been deprecated because I can’t find it.

The flasher app still exists in the Smartapp templates. The issue I had was you couldn’t alternate colors of the flashing or the speed or fade. I think it was limited to just flashing “lights” for a set period of time or number.

it would be cool if there was an app that allowed you to create programs for your led strip lights. Since so many people on here seem to have them, I think it would be pretty popular, if doable.

I would think it would require local processing at the minimum. It also should not send the state change to the cloud. I believe the SmartThings architecture needs to be enhanced to handle this. Basically, the cloud needs to know it is running a local routine but not the specifics of what the routine is doing.

Unfortunately, I don’t see this coming soon unless there is a more compelling need.

Probably more likely is a Fibaro firmware update that includes such a routine (similar to police, fireplace and lightning). This, however, is also a relatively small niche that it is not likely soon in my opinion.

The most likely is a third party hobbyist creating inputs into the Fibaro 10v analog inputs. It would be rather expensive however.

I have noticed that when I turn on the lights manually and not through an app like smart lighting, the beta version turns the fire setting on.

I know its close to the holidays, but were you able to get to it?

I worked on it over the weekend, but there are some other things I need to clean up in the DT. Crazy busy…

Any update with the beta or other Fibaro RGBW DT?

IS there a way go change the “Police” colors and rate of flash?

So @twack, this morning I woke up to my fibaro not recognizing any of the commands. The light would flicker on then off immediately. I repaired the network and that “fixed” it for about 5 minutes, then as I was verifying fix action, they flickered on/off and stopped communicating.

I re-pasted the RGBW 3 Beta code into IDE, and it worked for about 2 minutes, then it wouldnt…then it accepts commands…

Heres the logs that dont show much:

Thoughts?

That sounds more like a hardware problem (flicker). Do you have more than one?

Todd

LOL, no. My son had gotten into ST on his tablet and was changing things around.

He had the lights go on/off with motion detected. The only motion detector we have is in the master closet, where my wife gets ready in the morning…

Im not even mad that mah dude (8) was able to figure that out!

hi i’m still a newbie when it come to ST and Zwave in general but i’m looking to connect the Fibaro RGBW controller to my ST but just wanted to check, does the region matter? The only reason i ask is that ST in the tates seems to have official support for more devices that the UK. I understand that this isnt “official” but still just wanted to make sure.
Thanks in advance

I’m in the UK and in the middle of a build at the moment. I have a UK spec Fibaro RGBW ready to go in. I’ve put it together with 10m of RGBW LEDs ready to go into a ceiling box (soffit box) and it works very well indeed from my testing. Plastering’s done, decoration next, then the lights!

Thanks John, just out of curiosity have you used a 60watt psi to drive the 10m strip?
Dave

I’m using this 72W PSU and I’ve joined two 5m strips back to the Fibaro (so one in each direction from a single point).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0086DE6FI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

I may have to join an extra metre on to each end, but longer than 5m in a single stretch isn’t recommended.

I found that joining the two strips together (giving a single 10m run) meant the second in line was significantly dimmer than the first, regardless of PSU.

I’ll probably end up with 2x 6m runs.

@twack Just got my Fibaro controller and have some LED strips set up, and your Beta 3 code works wonderfully - GREAT work!

Few questions that I have so far:

  1. is Beta 3 the solution that we should be focusing on at this point? Or is it still unstable enough that using the original is still the better way to go? I noticed that there hasn’t been any commits since mid-november for the Beta 3, but it’s been nearly a year for the original release.

  2. If the answer to #1 is Beta 3, I noticed an issue where the Smart Lighting SmartApp can’t change the color & dimmer values for the strips - it sets the color, but doesn’t change the dimmer. For reference, I can do each of those tasks manually, so I don’t think it’s a problem with your code, it’s more of a problem of how the SmartApp handles sending commands.

Does anyone else using the Fibaro with LED strips find the ‘Fireplace’ setting a bit… green?
