There have been other topics on this way in the past, all of which have been apparently ignored by Samsung. So what the heck, I’ll add another voice.
"Smart"Things does not expose offline events to automation as do a number of competitors like Home Assistant, Habitat and Homey all of which support this natively. It seems bone-headedly obvious as a critical requirement. I would not have bought my Aeotec hub.had I done some more homework.
This capability is essential for devices like fridges, freezers, furnaces, sump pumps and medical equipment. Sort of dangerous without it. This should be part of device setup: Should this device be monitored for offline status, and if so, allow configurable ping rate and time interval before reporting offline. That should take care of the “too many false positives” argument and the “will flood the network with pings” argument since you’d turn this on only for a handful of devices.
Just FYI: I got Keep Connect’s PowerPal outlets for my fridge, freezer and furnace. They do exactly this by sending email and/or text when device is offline for the configured time. They don’t integrate with "Smart"Things but they don’t have to.
So, come on Samsung… get in the 21st century along with your competitors!
