FAQ: ST motion sensors is there more than 1 type (Includes manufacturer IDs)

hi

my ST motion sensor has decided to pack in so ordered another to replace it
but this 1 looks different to the 1 i have
and the new sensor seems very slow detecting motion
the 2 i have the sensor part on the front 1 is clear white ish and the other is grey dark ish if that makes seance
the out case and fitting as both the same also its just the lens that differs

is there more than 1 type of ST motion sensor

There is more than one generation, two or three I believe.

i had a feeling that maybe the case is there anyway to tell the differences as not having any luck on google

Go into the IDE, Device List, then click on the device name. The device info is found at “Data”. From the ST motion sensor DTH

I already had two Samsung Smartthings motion sensors which I was very pleased with. The third, which I bought a couple of weeks ago, doesn’t appear anywhere near as good as the first two. In the end I swapped a ‘good’ sensor and placed the new one in the hall where even it couldn’t fail to trigger people going by. The first two were produced by ‘CentraLite’, the latest a ‘Motion V4’ by Smartthings. Your email confirms my own suspicions! (The packaging has changed if you’re looking to spot a new one. )

I Have both the “CentraLite” version and the “SmartThings” version and there is a significant difference in the two devices.

Side by side the “CentraLite” is a better motion sensor.

I don’t know if the CentraLite has greater movement sensitivity or it’s DH is programmed better but in a side by side comparison the CentraLite is a better motion sensor.

I for one will not be buying any more Samsung Motion Sensors, the new versions are significantly poorer than the one I got in my starter kit.

The older generation was demonstrably faster. I don’t know if there were any improvements in other features in the newer generation. They did switch manufacturers.

It’s not the DTH, it’s the devices themselves. :disappointed_relieved: one community member even made a video showing how obvious the difference is. It’s in the following thread, a couple posts down.
