My entire house uses GE/Jasco/Enbrighten Z wave switches. Currently all of my ceiling fans have AC motors and are using a Z wave fan switch. One of my ceiling fans needs replaced and most of the nicer, modern looking fans we like have DC motors. I understand the Enbrighten fan switches only work with AC motors, but can I use an Enbrighten Z wave on-off switch (no dimmer) to simply turn the fan on and off (either physically or via the app and automations) and control the speed with the fans provided remote?
I’ve read conflicting data. I’ve read the on-off switch uses a relay that essentially acts like a regular on-off switch and then I’ve read another post/article saying that style switch would work in theory but cause undue stress to the motor reducing its life span.
How does the DC fan get connected to power? Does it have a transformer that plugs into the wall, hardwire? What does the manual say about what kind of switch can be used?
Assuming there is an A/C→D/C transformer, you could certainly wire the A/C to the Z-Wave switch and turn it on/off.
