Regardless if you agree with me or not, you have to admit this isn’t simply a black and white issue.

Blink has heard you all and has decided that they will continue the SmartThings integration with Blink. While the RBoy Blink client continues to work for now, in light of these concerns and the recent issues, Blink’s management is considering shutting down access to SmartThings in totality.

There are over 5,000 Blink cameras that are currently integrated into ST’s environment, if Blink were to hear from the owners of these 5,000 cameras and how it may affect their future business, it may convince them to continue the ST program. Do note that they will point you to their recent integration with IFTTT as a potential alternative, however, it will not be able to replace your current ST setup and experience.

Additionally, all of this was related to security concerns. Blink didn’t give any advance notice that they we’re being acquired and shutting down the API. So as much as you think he isn’t absolved, from the attached post above, any customer who had concerns that it might be shutdown again has their own culpability in making an informed decision as to whether to move forward with purchasing or not. Buyer beware. Does that mean RBoy should have stopped charging for access to the code? I don’t think so.
