Devices offline (Beta firmware 60.X)

And again, 2 devices went offline at the same time.

No. Name Room Type
1 Wasserlecksensor Küche M/T
2 Wasserlecksensor Badezimmer M/T

All of them are battery-powered, different rooms and two very different connection paths.

Time: 15:14 UTC ± 10 minutes

Same email address, logs dumped.

Wait a minute!!! This happened at almost exactly the same time before!!! The last time they went offline, it was at 15:13 UTC:

Today it happened between 15:12 and 15:14 UTC.

Hi, @Andreas_Roedl
Just to confirm:

  1. Are these the only devices going offline?
  2. Do they go offline every day around the time mentioned or only some days?
  3. I see they are both Matter sensors of the same model. Do you have any other device that is from the same model that doesn’t go offline?

Always these two IKEA KLIPPBOK M/T water leak sensors - at the same time. Sometimes with other battery powered devices like IKEA BILRESA or Aqara FP300. These IKEA KLIPPBOK are the most notorious. It’s interesting that they go offline at the same time, but have different connection paths.

Do they go offline every day around the time mentioned or only some days?

Sadly not every day - that would make the debugging much easier. Can’t figure out a pattern here. Maybe every other week.

I see they are both Matter sensors of the same model. Do you have any other device that is from the same model that doesn’t go offline?

Only these two devices of the same model.

Weird how they go offline at the same time. When they go offline the next time, I will bring one of them back online and wait an hour before I bring the other one online (by pulling the batteries for a few seconds). That way we could find out if there’s some timer or buffer overflow happening.

Edit: currently the same connection path for both devices, after I brought them back online, but they had different paths when they were offline. Plenty of Thread routers to choose from.

Thank you for the information.
I created a report to see if the engineering team can find something and I’ll keep you posted.

I have several KLIPPBOK (on software 1.11) and my V4 hub is also running Beta firmware. Mine are fairly stable, the only battery powered device that goes offline on a daily basis is that CO sensor we’ve discussed in a separate thread.

Did your KLIPPBOKs update their firmware? Mine pulled an update straight out of the box.

I would like to add that I have been experiencing the same issues with the KLIPPBOK water leak sensors. These sensors have the latest firmware update. I would also see the drop-offs on my Primary Thread Border Router. But I should also point out, I had been experiencing this issue with 59.x so it is not limited to 60.x Beta.

Jump to last night… I removed ST’s Thread network from the Primary Thread Border Router (Apple Home) and I have not experienced any drop-offs of the KLIPPBOK water leak sensors since.

LOL - of course right after posting - one went off-line. but 60.9 was just pushed out.

In the first minutes after installing them.

So did mine. My V4 hub is on Beta 60.x firmware, and the KLIPPBOKs have been absolutely stable. One connects directly to the hub, three others found a connection path through a KAJPLATS lamp.

Hi, @Andreas_Roedl
The engineering team provided the following feedback:

  1. It seems like the devices simply stop responding since there are no errors shown in the logs regarding the hub or device at that time
  2. They’re not going offline at exactly the same time, but you can see it’s about two minutes between when they both go offline, so, an issue in the hub is unlikely.
  3. Also, the rest of your matter devices seem more stable since we see they are continuing to report and the matter network seems healthy.
  4. For matter, we’re not as involved in the online/offline determination. We expect the devices to report to us relatively frequently, and attempt to re-establish those reports if they stop, but they don’t have a ping system like Zigbee/Z-Wave
  5. Their best guess is that this is an issue with the type of device itself over longer timeframes.
  6. They mentioned seeing a couple of threads of other platforms like Apple HomeKit users reporting similar behaviors
  7. To confirm the device still works correctly (meaning they’ll report accurately if there’s a status change), they suggest you trigger a “wet” status change and see if that is reflected in the ST app.

I also think it must be the devices. Let’s see if they both go offline again simultaneously after ~26 days. I’ll also put more Matter (bridged) leak sensors into operation so I can compare. Thank you very much for your efforts!

I’ve been experiencing the offline/online issue multiple times a day for about a month, and I’m almost ready to return the water leak sensor. It’s located about 30 ft from my V3 hub, so it doesn’t seem like a transmission power issue. I reported it once after I first got it, but it has definitely gotten more frequent and annoying.

Hi, @jnettleton
We can open a report to see if the device is being marked offline legitimately or if there’s something weird.
Please, the next time the device goes offline, provide this information:

  1. Take note of the date and time and share it with us, including your timezone
  2. Submit the hub logs
  1. In the Advanced Users app, enter the “Hubs” section
  2. Enter the corresponding Hub and click on “Dump Hub logs”
  3. Confirm the process by clicking on “Dump Hub logs” again in the pop-up.
  4. You’ll get a green box at the top confirming the Hub logs were requested
  1. Open support access to your account and share the device’s name
