Could not get physical status on GOCONTROL RA45110 to reflect on the hub...help

I send Nortek support an email (which is where Gocontrol support pointed to). No response…

I installed the GOCONTROL RA45110 as an accessory (3way) switch to a master switch. The old one crapped out (but it was working before it crapped out).

This new one was installed correctly and I can control it from the hub. But physical switch on the switch itself does not register to the hub…status does not update.

I need some help here.

There are a couple of possibilities that might cause what you were seeing.

First, what’s the brand and model of the master switch?

Second, when you physically press the new RA 45110 accessory switch, does the light come on? That is, does the master receive the message?

If so, does the status of the master switch change in the smartthings app?

If the answer to the second question is yes, the accessory is successfully communicating to the master switch, how did you set up that communication? And specifically did you use zwave direct association so that the accessory could talk to the master without going through the smartthings hub?

If you did use zwave direct association, then that’s the issue. That method doesn’t involve talking to the hub, which is why the accessory switch status would not update.

There are a couple of ways around that, but again, it depends on the answers to the previous questions.

Thx, see below!

First, what’s the brand and model of the master switch?

  • It has to be gocontrol, linear master switch, forgot the model…

Second, when you physically press the new RA 45110 accessory switch, does the light come on?

  • The accessory switch itself’s led switches but the master switch (lights doesn’t come on). I used there Aeon Minimote to set it up and the setup seemingly went ok but nothing happened.

If so, does the status of the master switch change in the smartthings app?

  • Never got there as the master switch doesn’t see the accessory switch either.

Ok, that’s using zwave Direct association. The model number matters because zwave association changed significantly between generations 4 and five. The minimote was discontinued a couple of years back in part because it can only do association between two of the older devices. It can’t associate a newer device because it can’t do associations other than in association group one, which is no longer used for associations with zwave plus.

All of which is to say you should still be able to make this work, but you can’t use the minimote to set it up.

Can you look on the new accessory switch that you have, either the box or the switch itself, and find the Z wave logo? If it says Z wave plus, you can’t use association from the minimote.

The good news is that if it is the Z wave plus version, you should be able to create the association without using a third device. Check the manual that came with the accessory switch. Does it match the following section?

Creating Associations
.

  1. Learn all devices into the Z-Wave Hub.
  2. Tap the paddle of the WT00Z5-1 four times quickly to enter Association
mode. The LED will begin to blink quickly (twice per second).
  3. Follow the instructions for inclusion or exclusion of the device to be associated. For GoControl devices, tap the button two times.
  4. Repeat Step #2 and #3 for up to 5 total dimmers and / or switches within 60 seconds of entering Association mode.
  5. Association mode will turn off after 60 seconds or when a node has been associated.
Although the Associations are now functional, it is recommended that you refer to your Hubs instructions to “Heal” the Z-Wave network to recognize the new Associations. Dimmers are automatically assigned to group 3 and other devices are assigned to group 2.
    .
    Removing Associations
    .
To remove the Associations, if the Hub has recognized the Associations, refer to the Z-Wave Hub’s instructions on how to remove Associations. If the Hub has not recognized the Associations, removing the WT00Z5-1 from the Z-Wave network will eliminate the Associations.
