I use Blue Iris as well and have 10 cameras hooked up to it. It is integrated with ST so if BI detects motion it triggers a virtual motion sensor in ST, which in turn can voice notify me based on my presence. It has a great motion tracking algorithm with object detection, zone crossing, auto-shadow cancellation, etc. I’ve fine tuned it to the point where there is almost no false alarms. I also have a small TV mounted in my living room google casted the BI web page with all my cameras displayed so I can watch them when ST tells me there’s motion. That just scratches the surface of all the features offered by BI.
For anyone serious about cameras, Blue Iris is hands down the best software. When integrated with ST you have a very smart security system.
Wow, just picked one of these up at Costco and can’t believe it isn’t ST compatible…what the heck Samsung?! I’ll likely be returning it and going with an Arlo after reading that it’s been out for over a year and no support.
I have a rather large stucco house and the Arlo cameras were terrible for that application. All the cameras have to connect to a netgear access point that has to be centrally located. Just beware.
Smartcam now supported! Add a thing manually and in the list of cameras Smartcam 6414 is now an option. Have fun everyone. Not sure if they will ever act as a motion sensor like the Arlos do but it’s a start.
@keyankow. Great to hear. Trying to setup mine (after many months of unsuccessful attempts), where do you find the list of Cameras? The DH says Samsung SmartCam, no model number.
Yes they do work nicely together however how do you setup shm to not send a push notification when camera is triggered?
I have all notifacations off but i always get notified regardless.
After all that waiting, I’m not convinced there’s any benefit to adding these cameras into SmartThings (at least for my setup).
Sure, I can view the live camera from within SmartThings, but it’s faster to do so in the SmartCam app.
ActionTiles doesn’t support viewing of cameras via SmartThings (yet?).
SHM doesn’t seem to support cameras as a trigger - I looked under “Security” and “Custom”, the only mention I find of cameras is the ability to record a clip when an open/close or motion sensor triggers.
For me, the ability to have SHM trigger camera recording is a big deal. It allows me to see if I’m having a false alarm or record a criminal act in progress.
I just found an odd bug. I have 5 of these cameras, and set up 4 of them (the max) in SmartThings.
The next day I realized that the timestamps on events (as viewed in the SmartCam app) were off by several hours.
It turned out that the timezone on the 4 cameras that SmartThings had access to had been switched to International Dateline West. The 5th camera (that SmarThings did not have access to) was unchanged.
When I first saw this I assumed it was a bug in the SmartCam app or the camera, triggered by enabling DST, but since the 5th camera did not have this problem, I’m pretty sure SmartThings did it. I wonder what other settings it mucked with.
