Z wave extenders were useful in the third generation of zwave, but honestly they’re a waste of money now. Any mains powered Z wave plus device will give you exactly the same amount of range extension, and you’ll get dual use out of it. So a light switch, a pocket socket, a plug-in sensor, an in wall micro… all good.
A single purpose range extender just isn’t a good value anymore.
Thanks…my issue is that only half of my house has neutrals (we remodeled part of our home and subset of the electrical system was updated to include neutrals, the older switches do not have neutrals), so my primary zwave extenders (GE Zwave wall switches) end quite a bit away from where I’m using Zwave door sensors (master bed room, outside shed and gate) and I want to ensure their reporting is accurate/stable. The shed in particular can sometimes go off.
In that context, I was going to put the plug in our master bedroom (room nearest the shed) in the “zwave desert” part of the house.
Given how cheap it is on the sale, you can do it if you want. If it was me, I would wait for a sale on the iris smart plug, you can often get them for about five dollars more than the extender’s sale price, and they will repeat for both zwave and Zigbee. And if nothing else you still have use of the socket. But it’s up to you.
The Ultimate One looks like the exact same one as the Touch I posted, in which case, yes, there is a button to go to the devices page where you can control all your normal Harmony related remote control devices AND it will list your home automation related devices from SmartThings.
EDIT: Looks like the Touch is a ‘low frills’ version of the Ultimate One essentially -
For Massachusetts/New England people, I got notification through energy provider National Grid that MassSave is offering up to $200 rebates on WiFi thermostats, including Ecobee 4 for $49. Limit 2, through 11/27/2017. Similar offers may be available in other regions.
I was able to use this same website to order an Ecobee 4 (they had Nests as well) for $124 through Colombia Gas of Ohio (I live in Columbus, OH) and I’ll get an additional $75 rebate from AEP for a final price of $49 for an Ecobee4! Woot!
Nice catch, that’s even better than the $60 after sale, coupons and MassSave rebates at Lowe’s. Now I really can’t resist.
Anybody interested in an Ecobee3 for $50
