Can’t get this across the finish line. I have all of the latest versions installed and I still can’t get it to talk. Curl’s are working(even speaking), so I’m not sure what to do. I have all modes allowed, I’m within the allowed talk time and my device it showing as a default device.

From BT 2.0

Sorry if this has been covered. I tried to look thru the thread but couldn’t find much.

I have been using BigTalker version 1.x and loved it. The only down side was that sometimes LanAnnouncer would quit and I would have to run the app again. So today I bought a Samsung R1 hoping it would be a bit more reliable so I won’t miss messages. I installed BigTalker 2 because version 1 doesn’t seem to support Wifi Speakers. Anyways, I noticed a long delay between the contact been opened and the notification being spoken. It’s between 7-10 seconds. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks

Hi, I have upload a custom audio in lannouncer. How I can set in BigTalker to use my audio files in lannouncer? Thank you

code the text as: @#ALARM=FILEn or @|ALARM=FILEn where n is the Lannouncer file number

I’m about to install BigTalker for the first time. It looks like v2.0 is still in development. Would you recommend I stick with v1.1.12, or just go straight to 2.0?

I really think 2.0 is ready for prime time.
I have some bucket list items that people wanted and I plan to implement but I’ve been super busy at home and work lately so I haven’t jumped into the code in a while to add those. I’ll get to it soon.
There will be nothing further done with 1.1.12. That said, going from 1.1.12 to 2.0 is a complete reinstall and reconfigure of BigTalker as it’s designed differently (it’s now a parent/child app structure that focuses on groups (think rooms or however you wish to manage your devices).

Awesome, thanks guys. @rayzurbock, add one to the number of appreciative BigTalker users!!!

Any chance to fix the sonos issue of continue playback? I have been reading on the HA forums about how they solved this. Could this help BigTalker?

So I have an Alexa in each room of my house that I’d like to use as my Big Talker Notification device. I installed AskAlexa successfully but I’m not sure how to procede from here. I had Big Talker sending notifications to my Sonos speakers but I didn’t like how it didn’t consistently resume the music. I then setup Big Talker with LANnouncer on my two Fire 7 tablets running ActionTiles and mounted in two of my rooms and this may work but I’d prefer to be able to send the Big Talker notifications to any Alexa Dot room of my choice. Is that what the AskAlexa Big Talker integration is intended for? If so, could someone help me out with how to get that going? Can’t seem to find to many references to it. Thanks for the great application here!

BT=Bluetooth I assume…

If the device shows up in SmartThings as a voice capable device then Ask Alexa can access it. You will do this through the Message queue option.

Have a look at this and we can work together to get it working: http://thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=Ask_Alexa_-_Message_Queues

Sorry BT=big Talker. I thought I saw people using that acronym. I’ll edit my post. I have many devices working as voice capable devices including 6 Sonos speakers and 2 Fire Tablets (using LANnouncer) and a couple of DLNA capable speakers. I can get voice notifications to work on all these speakers but what I’d like to use as my Notification speaker is one or all of my 7 Alexa Echo Dots. I have AskAlexa completely setup using the page that you referenced already. Just not sure how to Bridge AskAlexa to BigTalker in order to receive notifications through my Alexa Dots.

@jacobwtyler, Currently you can’t send Music or TTS to any Echo device. The only thing you can do is if you have a device that SmartThings works with and has bluetooth, you can connect that Bluetooth device to the Echo and use SmartThings to do basic audio controls.

Okay, I was afraid of that. Since that is the case, could you give me an example of how I would use the AskAlexa integration with BigTalker? I’m not sure I understand the intended use case. Thank you

Sorry not much help there. I haven’t looked into that app too much yet.

Big talker CAN use Ask Alexa’s message queue. This will play back on Alexa when you query the speaker (not at event time). You CAN also send the output to SmartThings connected speakers like TTS devices and Sonos. Those happen AT event time…

Does that make sense?

Yes thank you very much. Any word if amazon has plans to allow for push notifications or something that would allow audio to be sent to the echo in the near future?

How do you set this up?

There is a section of Big Talker that allows you to send output to Ask Alexa’s message queue. Not sure on BT2.0 as I haven’t had a chance to play with it.

To set up the message queue to receive and relay message, please see here: http://thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=Ask_Alexa_-_Message_Queues
