I have a Roomba 980, and two dogs that shed a lot. I have to empty the bin 2-3 times every time I run it (every 2-3 days as I have yet to schedule it). It keeps the floors looking pretty clean, we have 0 complaints. Its been a good buy, though expensive.
Just waiting for someone to connect SmartThings to the 980, and ill be very happy.
I have 2 Neatoās, 1 roomba and a Scooba. Love them all. Works great for pet hair and have the vacuums run on a schedule is great. Only issue is batteries. They tend to last about a year or so before I see a loss of cleaning time.
I did some of the hardware design for the processor in the Neato vacuums. They are a great company with great products. I have loved both of my vacuums from them.
I just ordered the Samsung SR2AK9350U Turbo Powerbot Vacuum. It was expensive. We will see how it works. Has a 30 day return 100% satisfaction guarantee.
It cleans well. It has three power settings, none of them are as loud as a regular vacuum. Though the highest setting did wake me up when running in our kitchen at 6:30 am. We have mostly wooden floors so we run it at the lowest setting which you can barely hear and it still cleans well.
The app is terrible but usable. The UI within ST is similar but easier to use.
I havenāt scheduled it yet so I canāt comment on that. I need to spend the time looking for the SmartApp to tell it to clean when everyone leaves. It shows up as a switch capability, so that might be all I need to do, configure the āEveryone Leavesā routine.
One interesting note. I ran it on the highest setting to see how long it lasted and to see if if cleaned better. It ran for 45ish minutes versus the 2.5+ it did on the normal setting. No better cleaning because it was wood floors and normal gets them fine. However, after the battery died, it went back to hits home and charged. A couple hours later I decided to empty the bin on it. As I was emptying it into the trash can it must have finished charging as it woke up and started to clean (as it didnāt finish cleaning the room before it ran out) WITHOUT the bin to collect the stuff in. It was happy to to just go on itās way and suck up stuff and I guess spit it back out like a lawnmower. I quickly put it in to avoid a mess. Weird.
My Roombas will do that with the Thinking Cleaner module as well if you have the āRestart Chargedā option selected and you do a MAX clean. Iāve been caught out by it a couple of times in the past, now I prop up the Roombas against the wall while Iām emptying their bins.
The main reason why they will do it though on the Roomba/Thinking Cleaner, is if you have the āAuto Dockingā option selected. Basically if the Roomba isnāt on the dock and it can see a dock, if itās not currently cleaning, it will automatically go and dock.
