Alexa Voice Recognition & SmartThings

Hoping someone can help me with the following use case. I have smart switches controlled via SmartThings, and also have Echo’s that I use for giving voice commands. Alexa can recognize voices, and I’d like to use that to determine what action SmartThings should take.

For example, someone says “Alexa, turn on the lights”. Alexa can determine whether it’s me or my wife using voice recognition. I then want to turn on the corresponding lights/scene (i.e. my closet vs. my wife’s closet) based on who is talking. I can’t figure out how to access the Alexa voice recognition data to determine who is talking. Any ideas?

It won’t do person recognition. I would suggest separate commands, like “Turn on John’s lights” and “Turn on Mary’s lights”.

Yeah, that’s my back-up plan, but figured I’d ask just in case. Seems like an easy capability for Amazon to add to Alexa’s routines: voice input + specific speaker. Maybe some day.
