Alexa & Smartthings: forgotten Devices keep coming back

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problems as me recently.

I cam across a problem with controlling my Hue lights via Alexa & Google Home so decided to start the integration process again, however after disabling my Alexa skills and also my google home intergration, neither of them seem to be losing the link between systems. I forget all my devices on Alexa then rediscover (after unlinking the skill) and it just brings them back over and over again.

Not sure whats going on.

Also on another but similar note, Alexa doesn’t seem to be finding my hue bridge? Not that I can see anyway?

Any ideas?

Ok just checked - It appears its the other way around - Alexa is not removing the Hue lights (direct) from the list even after the skill has been removed.

Amazon changed.the way this was done a few months ago. You’re probably best off contacting their support, but meanwhile

  1. at least as of December you could still do this through the Alexa website, but not through the mobile app. I don’t know if that still works.

This will not work on a mobile device, as it will just tell you to get the app.

  1. there’s no longer a way to forget all devices from a mobile device as far as I know, but you can forget individual ones permanently. But you have to remove it from the controlling app (SmartThings) or it just keeps getting rediscovered. To individually remove it on the Amazon side, you have to use the little trashcan icon in the upper right when you are editing the device details

I don’t think Hue Lets you individually Deauthorize devices, so my guess would be that as far as the Hue devices, they will always be rediscovered once you have enabled the Hue skill. But check with Amazon support.

Previous discussion ( but I don’t know how up-to-date it is)

Thanks JD - Ever the knowledge base!

Not so much anymore. I don’t really know anything about automations now. I haven’t been able to use the old mobile app for a year, since they broke VoiceOver navigation, and I haven’t dared try the new one for all the known reasons.

And I found I can’t keep up with Google Home at all. I have one of them, but don’t use it much (again, the app is not very voice-friendly, at least on iOS).

And I’m quite confused about how device type handlers will work on the new platform.

So I’m pretty much down to hardware specifications for third-party devices, network protocol questions for third-party protocols, and a few of the integrations that I happen to use a lot like IFTTT and Alexa.

Just as well, I have a lot going on right now, so the inability to participate is to some extent a benefit. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
