Aeotech Switch Routine

Newbie here,

I recently installed an Aeotec dimmer and multi sensor 7.

Simple routine:

When the sensor the detects motion, dimmer turns on.

This works fine

Simple routine with time delay:

When lotion is detected dimmer turns on

Delay one minute

Turn off dimmer

For some reason this is not working for me.

It appears any delay that is put in the routine will not allow the routine to activate..

If I put a delay in the routine and hit test routine the light will not come on.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I always use two Routines. One for motion detected - turn on light. Another Routine no motion detected for 1 minute (but I use a different amount of time) - turn off light. I am sure others have their own way of doing it.

You need to put the delay period into the condition, not into the action.

What yours does is schedule “Switch Off” five minutes after “Switch On”, no matter whether the sensor still detects positive.

What you actually want is two separate things like jkp suggested:

(1) If (motion) then (lights on)

(2) if (no motion for X amount of time) then (lights off)

There is a “condition persists for X amount of time” option in conditions.

Also btw, routine test skips any and all delays. Read the fine print!

Hi,

Thanks for I reply. I learned something new for sure.

In the second screenshot I posted, should that Routine work? I now understand that, if I don’t want the light to shut off while someone is in the bathroom, however I am testing to see if the motion sensor will trigger the switch and the shut if off.

I am using the illumino dimmer switch from Aeotech. I have been have lots of issues with it not working. Tech support has been slow.

I will try this and see if that will work, but so far it won’t shut off after I put a delay in the routine.

You should make sure that it works correctly before you start setting up and testing your routines.

The routine in your second screenshot looks good and if it doesn’t work, it might be an issue with your device.

Not sure if I did this correctly.

These look correct to me. Mine are the same, and they work fine.

For motion lighting, don’t put the off as a blind delay in the same Then as the on. That starts a clock the moment motion hits, and it will fire even if someone is still in the room.

Split it:

  1. When motion starts, turn the light on

  2. When no motion has lasted for your timeout, turn the light off

The off path has to see a persisted quiet period, not N minutes after the first trigger. That way a still occupant doesn’t get dropped in the dark, and a late motion event resets the off timer.
