Aeon Labs Aeotec Z-Wave Siren

I finally got mine to work. I rebooted my hub and then placed the siren next to to hub (literally almost touching it). Finally paired correctly and works great.

I had to remove the device and unassociate it from my Minimote controller and delink it from my ZWave network and then I had to reboot. Now everything is good.

Just got the Aeon Siren today, and I did have a bit of trouble getting it to pair correctly with Smartthings. It would show up as pairing successfully in Smartthings, but would be unresponsive. Fortunately, I followed the advice to initiate the pairing process very close to the Smartthings Hub (within three feet) and now the siren seems to work.

However, I can’t seem to get the siren to only strobe for alarms. It seems that no matter the Alarm type I choose using the stock Open/Close Monitor app, all the alarms end up triggering the strobe and the audible alarm. The Activity Feed shows that a strobe command is being sent, but the Aeon Siren is showing alarm is both:

Frustrating! Since this is now an officially supported device, I would report the issue to support@smartthings,com and see if they can help.

The Aeon Siren doesn’t have the ability to only strobe, unfortunately. It’s just not a feature of the device.

Nuts! Well that’s disappointing. Thanks for the clarification, I probably wouldn’t have figured that out on my own and would have chalked it up to a bug or defect.

I had some pretty high hopes for this siren as the form factor is quite nice, but the functionality of the siren turned out to be not as versatile as I had thought it would be. Not being able to only strobe is a bummer, but it’s also disappointing that we’re unable to trigger different alarm tones and volumes for different scenarios.

I’d like to know if there is a way to trigger the alarm for few seconds (and repeat every “x” minutes) when a specific door is left open ?

The use case is to get an audible notification when the main door is left open or similar. It would be great to have this feature available as part of regular “door” app. But for now a “Notify Me” app would also be fine .

Is anyone else having this problem? When I try and change the preferences (volume and siren sound), I get an error saying “Failed to save page: preferences.” I’ve reset the hub, uninstalled and re-installed the siren, and eventually, am able to save the preferences when I log in online and save them on the website. It doesn’t, however, change the volume and option. I’ve been searching for an answer on the net for a week, and finally bit the bullet and thought I would ask the pros.

Any thoughts?

Wow–you’re a lot more patient than I am!

Since this is on the official “works with SmartThings” list, support should be able to help.

Just write them at support@smartthings.com Tell them what phone app you’re using (Android, IOS, or Windows phone). They should be able to help.

Perfect, thanks for the help!

Did you ever figure the error?

I am not able to change the sound either. When I select a different #, it tells me "An unexpected error occurred"
Thoughts?

Same error here guys. Unexpected error whenever I want to change any parameter in the siren.

This error was never corrected. I still only have one option for sound and one option for volume.

Glad to know that I am not the only one with this problem.

About 3 weeks ago I submitted a ticket regarding this problem and this is the reply that I got back:
"Sorry sincerely apologize the inconvenience
this is a recent regression in the Aeon Siren integration that we just discovered. Our engineers are currently investigating the cause of the bug and should have a recently shortly. I am going to place your ticket on hold and will let you know when we receive word that it has been fixed."
I’m hoping this problem gets solved soon, I bought this siren specifically to be able to change tones and volume levels especially since this is on SmartThings officially approved device list.

I’m also having the whine
and also was pointed outed by my wife. Have somebody find a way to solve it?

Thanks!

Regarding the whine, I emailed Aeotec customer support about it. Here’s what they said:

The Siren shouldn’t have a high pitched sound at all when it isn’t activated, it could be a defect in your unit causing the problem.

I suggest getting it replaced through the retailer that you purchased it from.

I returned/exchanged it through Amazon for a new one, and the replacement doesn’t whine at all. I recommend swapping it out for another.

Perfect :grinning:

I’ll swap.

Chris, great information. Thank you. You spared me having to contact support. I have sensitive ears too, and the high pitch whine is a bit unbearable. Although, the siren itself works well, and works with SmartThings well too.
