I’m a little confused on ceiling fan controls. Right now, I have a non-smart switch that just turns my ceiling fan on and off. To change the speed, I have to yank the chain on the fan itself.
Is it possible to control this fan with something like a GE 12730 3 speed fan control switch? I’m confused on how the switch can change the speed, is it just 3 different voltages being sent? Or is there another part or different wiring I need for this to work?
Correct. You set the fan to high speed via pull chain and then the GE smart fan control changes voltage. It’s really no different than the Leviton and other dumb fan controls you can but at the box stores but just adds a Zwave radio.
