I think ST was a much better deal. They got a full (though not fully working) HA platform for $200 mil + 1000 free developers.

SmartThings doesn’t release much in the way of devices and smartapps. They try to put out a good platform and hope we figure out the rest. I think the Samsung relationship is a viable one.

Our dishwasher is pretty old and noisy. When the time comes I’ll definitely check to see if Samsung sells a connected dishwasher. Built in connectivity would set their product out from the many other choices if I can just plug it in and have SmartThings report energy use and turn it on for me when we are sleeping. SmartThings itself doesn’t need to generate revenue in this model. If it can increase Samsung’s device and appliance revenue by just 5 or 10% in a few years
 that’s a lot of dough.
